Order of Business. (25 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Following a discussion I had with a widow whose husband died suddenly and equally in terms of the Lawlor family, I wish to ask a question on the coroners Bill. It seems it will be February before somebody can get a report.

Order of Business. (25 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: The coroners Bill is a major concern to people who have suddenly lost relatives and loved ones——

Order of Business. (25 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: ——in that they will not get the report for months. On the forestry (amendment) Bill, we are cutting down the trees around Thornton Hall after paying €30 million for a farm.

Trevor Sargent: To which next year is the Taoiseach referring? Can we get a clear answer on that?

Order of Business. (20 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Like the other party leaders and the Minister for Finance, I too wish to express solidarity with the family of Mr. Rory Carroll and take seriously the advice of the Minister for Foreign Affairs that the matter be dealt with in a way that the Department of Foreign Affairs can best determine for the security of Mr. Carroll. We respect that advice and hope the release will be swift. On promised...

Trevor Sargent: I do.

Order of Business. (20 Oct 2005)

Order of Business. (20 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I want to ask the Minister whether the coastal zone management legislation will see the light of day again or whether there is legislation from the Government that will seriously tackle the challenges of climate change. Draft Animal Remedies Regulations 2005: Motion (Resumed). (19 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: The Green Party supports wholeheartedly the Fine Gael motion which ties in closely with an adjournment matter I raised last week on the matter of dairy farmers in my constituency and the issues affecting them, not least the demise in their numbers from approximately 200 in the 1960s to the remaining 22 that are hanging on for dear life in the face of a fast rising cost base and ruthless...

Regulatory Reform. (19 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: On regulatory reform, has the Government a definition of the role of a regulator in the sense of whether he or she will be primarily a status quo caretaker or an agent for change, for example, a transformer, as one might say, in the case of the energy regulator, to a less carbon intensive energy system in this country? Does the Government have a view of where the driver for change will be? Is...

Regulatory Reform. (19 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I will take the opportunity because I see the line Minister is listening carefully, but I want to ask the Taoiseach specifically because in his reply he said that the regulatory impact analysis was to look at costs. I want to know what he meant by that. If one abolishes the groceries order, the cost is high in terms of loss of small-scale retailers and food producers and I want to know...
