The Department has put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure official placenames of Gaeltacht areas, as declared by the Minister in the 2005 placenames order, will continue to be used as the default for corporate purposes including, where appropriate, legislative, corporate and statistical purposes.

In good faith, the Department contacted An Post, which is in charge of the addresses that are given to Capita, addresses which have to align with the postal service. Hildegarde Naughton: I can confirm that the 2018 to 2021 scheme was consulted on, including with the Coimisinéir Teanga, and no issue was raised with its provision. That provision was that the Department would put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure official placenames of Gaeltacht areas, as declared by the Minister in the Placenames (Centres of Population and Districts) Order 2005, would continue...

Hildegarde Naughton: Which is Capita. As the Deputy knows, GeoDirectory supplies the address to Capita. GeoDirectory is a subsidiary of An Post and it has to get it from An Post because Eircode postcodes have to align with the postal address system, which comes from An Post. That is the issue here.
