- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chair Designate (26 Sep 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Mr. McGrail is very welcome. It is not my style to jump in the way I did but I felt quite concerned about some of the points raised and the attempt to put him in a particular position, which in my view was unfair. I wish Mr. McGrail well in his role as chairperson designate. If Deputy Munster leaves, I will wait until she leaves.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chair Designate (26 Sep 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Good. I just do not want to be interrupted. I wish Mr. McGrail well in his new role, which is a challenging one. In my experience, the Irish Aviation Authority has been exemplary and is a stand out Irish authority in worldwide aviation. I said that publicly here in the past. I have a couple of questions. Deputy Troy made a point about the board having only five out of nine members....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chair Designate (26 Sep 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: That is very unfortunate. The late Mr. O'Byrne White used to be CEO of CityJet. He was a great guy. I would like the committee to write a letter of congratulations to Eamonn Brennan, the former chief executive officer of the Irish Aviation Authority, who held that position for 15 or 16 years. He has been appointed director general of Eurocontrol, which is an incredibly significant...

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I have a couple of comments but I will leave it at that for now.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chair Designate (26 Sep 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: It was.

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: There were some discussions a number of years ago about the CAR becoming part of the IAA. What is the position in that regard?

Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Go raibh maith agat.
- Seanad: Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) (Amendment) Bill 2018: Second Stage (25 Sep 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire. I welcome the Bill, the primary purpose of which is to transpose, in part, the fourth EU money laundering directive into national law and to give effect to the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force. I have three main points that I ask the Minister and his officials to consider. First, and perhaps it might be a matter which can be returned to...
- Seanad: Post Office Closures: Motion (19 Sep 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Ní thógfaidh mé ocht nóiméad. Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire go dtí an Teach seo. Tá sé an-deas é a fheiceáil. Le bheith fírinneach, tugaim an-tacaíocht dó go ginearálta mar is duine d'iarthar na hÉireann é. The Minister understands rural requirements. On this occasion, I support Senator Leyden's proposal....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Ní raibh mé le labhairt, I was not going to speak but I feel I have to. There are two reasons for this, the primary one being I fully support the Chairman in his role. He is doing a very fine job.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: The colleague who spoke earlier was certainly not representing me. It was unfair and unbalanced, díreach é sin a rá. Tá cúpla ceist-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (18 Jul 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Níl a fhios agam faoi sin, sin scéal eile. Níl agam ach cúpla ceist ginearálta. I am the kind of person who looks at the glass half full and not half empty. Unfortunately, sometimes in these Houses we look at glasses as being more half empty than half full. Like Deputy Troy, I believe a strong positive effort has been made here with regard to improving the traffic...
- Seanad: Education (Admission to Schools) Bill 2016: Committee Stage (20 Jun 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Tá fáilte roimh an Aire chuig an Teach seo. Tugaim tacaíocht do na moladh a rinne an Seanadóir Ruane, I support her proposal on ten days. It is important. We also need to look at the school's perspective. The last thing, from my experience, that schools do is suspend a student. They go through all of the processes diligently. School management and the teachers make...
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Jun 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: I want to bring to the attention of the House a huge issue relating to transport in Ireland, which is Dublin Airport. It is a fantastic facility with 30 million passengers passing through annually. That is approximately 83,000 passengers every day. It has exceeded its capacity. The staff at Dublin Airport are great, as Senator Marshall has said. Fantastic people are working hard to try...
- Seanad: Small and Medium Enterprises: Statements (19 Jun 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Cuirim míle fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit chuig an Teach seo. I dtosach báire ba mhaith liom a rá go bhfuil an tacaíocht atá Rialtas an Aire Stáit á tabhairt do ghnóthaí beaga le feiceáil. Tá sé an-mhaith agus an-tábhachtach. The support the Government is giving to small and medium-sized businesses is significant and...
- Seanad: Small and Medium Enterprises: Statements (19 Jun 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Tá brón orm. Tá fadhb mhór ann leis na scileanna bainistíochta. I actually think in Irish and speak in English. Gabh mo leithscéal faoi sin. A big problem with that is that the larger companies - the multinationals - are scooping up all of those people. Our unemployment rate is now 5.8% and it continues to go down. However, it is becoming increasingly...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: CIÉ and DAA: Chairpersons Designate (13 Jun 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: An bhfuil sé ceart go leor má chuirim an cheist as Ghaeilge?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: CIÉ and DAA: Chairpersons Designate (13 Jun 2018)
Pádraig Ó Céidigh: Tá sé ceart go leor. The most important indication in the comments from Ms Ross was that there would be open and honest communication, with listening as well as talking. I get that and I wish her very success. She is bringing a breath of fresh air to all of this. I have not met Ms Ross before but I echo what my colleague, Senator O'Mahony, said about her CV. She has a...
