Progressing Children's Disability Services: Statements (14 Nov 2019)

Gino Kenny: -----but it is difficult in this debate when one sees the stark reality of what parents have to face. Children who need intervention are being failed, which is the key word I will use. I do not doubt the Minister of State's bona fides. Rather, I am stating the facts, and the facts are that children are being failed on a grand scale. Parents are being forced to bring the Government to...

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Education: Discussion (12 Nov 2019)

Gino Kenny: I will be extremely brief because Eileen has largely answered the question I was going to ask her. I thank all of the witnesses for their contributions. It is always very enlightening to hear the history of the Travelling people and their suffering at the moment. As public representatives, we want to highlight that a great wrong has been done to Traveller people over the past number of...

Dublin Mid-West By-election: Issue of Writ (7 Nov 2019)

Gino Kenny: Most people believed we would have a general election before the by-elections. It is probably a bellwether indicating how people feel about the incumbent Government. After the end of the month we will know the results. Kellie Sweeney will be the People Before Profit candidate in Dublin Mid-West. She is the youngest candidate to stand in any of the four by-elections. I first got to know...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh (Atógáil) - Questions on Promised Legislation (Resumed) (7 Nov 2019)

Gino Kenny: Four months ago, the Misuse of Drugs (Prescription and Control of Supply of Cannabis for Medical Use) Regulations 2019 came into effect. For the first time, this gave Irish-based doctors the opportunity to prescribe medical cannabis products. Since then, nobody has been prescribed any products whatsoever. I received a text message from a woman in recent days. In it she said: Hi Gino,...

Gino Kenny: When?

Illegal Drugs: Motion [Private Members] (5 Nov 2019)

Gino Kenny: I welcome this important debate on the issue. It has been debated numerous times since I became a Deputy. The drugs industry is one of demand and supply and the demand will always exist in society whether we like it. The recent debate on decriminalisation of drugs for personal use was beneficial but it did not go far enough. Anyway, that is probably for another debate. Policy change in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Health: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Nov 2019)

Gino Kenny: Over the past ten years, what has been the prevalence in the Traveller community of access to rehabilitation support for substance abuse, in particular alcohol or drugs? I suspect it goes under the radar to a certain degree. Where there is desperation and lack of hope, what usually follows is substance abuse. I can say that from my own experience living in Clondalkin.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Online Harassment and Harmful Communications: Discussion (Resumed) (23 Oct 2019)

Gino Kenny: It has been a very interesting session and a great many of the questions and observations have been responded to very well. This is an area which has been of huge interest to Deputies, Senators and society as a whole. I will be brief, as I do not want to labour any point. We are here because of what was done to Dara Quigley. I did not know her but a terrible wrong was done to that young...
