- Select Committee on Justice and Equality: Data Protection Bill 2018: Committee Stage (Resumed) (3 May 2018)
Clare Daly: I think the complainant has a right to know. Given the confusion on this issue, I think it would be better if Deputy O'Callaghan's amendments were agreed now. If the Minister needs to change the relevant sections of the Bill in light of the confusion I have mentioned, we can do so on Report Stage.

- Topical Issue Debate (Resumed): Northern Ireland (2 May 2018)
Clare Daly: There is no doubt that this is an outrage and a gross violation of human rights. I recall the testimony given to the Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement by Ms Lorraine Taylor, wife of Tony Taylor, on the devastating impact the swoop operation which picked up Mr. Taylor over two years ago had had on their family. He was taken into custody on the vague assertion of...
- Topical Issue Debate (Resumed): Northern Ireland (2 May 2018)
Clare Daly: I thank the Tánaiste for his reply. There is a strange irony in the similarity of the cases of Tony Taylor and Ibrahim Halawa. People were justifiably outraged by occurrences in the latter case such as court dates being cancelled, the accused having no clue as to the charges against him and both he and his legal team being left in the dark. That is exactly what is happening on this...

- Select Committee on Justice and Equality: Business of Select Committee (2 May 2018)
Clare Daly: We should discuss a break. We are not going to sit from 2 p.m. until midnight. I have a public meeting on the referendum that I have to go to. I can go and come back but will have to be absent for at least part of the committee meeting tomorrow. It would be good to have a break coincide with that. Can we relax the rules? We are a small group. It is more difficult for us to get someone...

Clare Daly: Yes.
- Select Committee on Justice and Equality: Data Protection Bill 2018: Committee Stage (2 May 2018)
Clare Daly: I do not think that it is a case of fake research, it is research dressed up as science but that actually has a commercial objective rather than one of public interest. We made our points earlier. We think that it is necessary to define it. I will leave it at that, I will not keep going on.
- Select Committee on Justice and Equality: Data Protection Bill 2018: Committee Stage (2 May 2018)
Clare Daly: I suppose we could look at that. Fianna Fáil's response is that defining one purpose was a problem. If that is the problem, it might support us in defining them all on Report Stage. We can do that.
- Select Committee on Justice and Equality: Data Protection Bill 2018: Committee Stage (2 May 2018)
Clare Daly: If that is the objection. I think that it is an important point, albeit a small one. We cannot be cavalier about data. Let us remember that what we are talking about here is the most private, red flag, data. We know there are huge amounts of money to be made here. These are very serious issues. These are big money interests and we need to be careful.
