Christopher O'Sullivan: The target is 400,000 heat pumps and we have only done 6,000 so far, so obviously the rate of pace is slow. I am backing the Minister when I say that the solution in the long term is electrification of our heating systems, but there is a technology, HVO, and we should not be ignoring it for home heating.

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (22 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: If we told people there was a medicine that could reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by 33%, they would take it. If we told people that there was a tonic that could reduce the risk of type 3 diabetes by 40%, they would absolutely take it. If we told people there was a tool that could reduce the risk of depression by 30%, they would absolutely take it. This medicine does exist. It...

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Support for Development of Regional Film and Television Production: Discussion (Resumed) (22 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: The Leas-Chathaoirleach mentioned at the outset that it was a west Cork love-in. I would particularly like to welcome Anthony, who is pretty much a neighbour of mine in Clonakilty, and Gar. It is odd having Gar O'Brien across from me in an Oireachtas committee. We started school together, say, when we were five.

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Support for Development of Regional Film and Television Production: Discussion (Resumed) (22 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I have nine minutes. I intend to use them. Gar and I were at school together from the age of four. It was Gar who got me into all these weird sci-fi shows, such as "Firefly". "Star Wars" is not that weird, but we used have these discussions. I remember one debate about Spielberg where, I think, he said Spielberg was an average director. I had never heard the likes of it. It is great...

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Support for Development of Regional Film and Television Production: Discussion (Resumed) (22 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I might move on as I have another question. We have gone over time. If the delegates want to contribute again on that later, they should please do so. We had representatives of the Department before us and they talked about the idea of direct investment in studios and the capital side of things. I was talking specifically about west Cork. The delegates present might have heard me talk...

Housing for All: Statements (Resumed) (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: As I stand here this evening, there are families, individuals and couples, all prospective first-time buyers, in the Clonakilty area of west Cork who are gutted. I am gutted too. I will explain why. For the first time, west Cork was going to see the delivery of an affordable housing scheme - something that I and the people of the area had been seeking for years. There was finally going to...

We will see one in Kinsale. There will be another...
