- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (12 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: I concur with Deputy McAuliffe or he concurs with me, whichever. I respect what Deputy Dillon is saying but we are already in a scenario where the chair has agreed, in front of the committee, to give us something that RTÉ is withholding and he is going to have a conversation about that, but we do not have time to waste. Our timeline does not allow for all this. We have the Hallowe'en...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (12 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: In addition, we do not want people coming in here thinking all they have to do is kick the can down the road and the committee will run out of time.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (12 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: We should bear in mind that if the report in respect of the redundancies is finalised, we will probably need to have the representatives of RTÉ back in immediately. That report is expected at the end of October.

- Financial Resolutions 2023 - Budget Statement 2024 (10 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: Budget 2024 brings another very positive set of announcements but seriously that is all they are - positive announcements. Nobody listening to the Minister today would think that we are in the worst housing crisis in living memory. We had backbenchers applauding one another when they do not even understand the problem. The Government is clapping itself on the back when people are facing...

- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: I would like to mention the fact that Mr. Gloster came to Wexford and visited those facilities. This coming funding has been announced as granted this morning, and I refer in particular to the school leavers programme for Cumas New Ross, which should keep people out of the day service and move them on to a brighter future. To follow on from what my colleague said, the reason I asked Mr....
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: Mr. Gloster knows how important section 39 organisations are. He knows the nature of what they do-----
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: Not just their funding but equally the pressures around the care at home for somebody with a brain injury. The cost of having them in a facility is exponential in comparison but the truth is that if we supported the individual to stay at home it is half the price. We are, however, not getting that type of assistance. It is not forthcoming.
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: I am conscious of the clock but I can come back in on it. I appreciate Mr. Gloster's point and that is where I am coming from. I live in the area in the county with greatest concentration of section 39 organisations. I understand the age group we are talking about and particularly the parents of those individual service users. Again it comes back to services. During the summer an...
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: Can I just clarify that it is 20% and we are still at a deficit of €20 million from what it was back 12 years ago? It was €80 million and we are only at €60 million now. Is that correct?
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: So it was increased by 20%, which means the deficit is less but we are still €20 million short of where it was ten years ago.
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: This is the same argument whereby barristers are on strike who are working off rates they were getting in 2009. Dentists cannot do it either.
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: It must be about engagement. It has to be engagement. There is a solution. I understand that the system needs to change. The HSE wants to bring in schoolchildren to it-----
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: -----but there has to be negotiation and mediation. Mr. Gloster is the CEO, and he is a bit Drew Harris here for me. It is up to Mr. Gloster to get that engagement going. I will not make any disparaging comments about who is paid what but I lay this at Mr. Gloster's door. It is his job to get that engagement going. I do not know what the figures will be for next year but I do not want...
- Public Accounts Committee: Health Service Executive: Financial Statements 2023 (5 Oct 2023)
Verona Murphy: Sorry. There are no dentists operating the dental treatment scheme in Wexford.
