- Topical Issue Debate: Road Tolls (9 Oct 2013)
Dessie Ellis: I welcome steps which will make business a little easier for hauliers. In light of the efforts the Government has made in this regard, I am pleased to give credit where it is due. The lifting of tolls for hauliers in November will help make the year a little easier for haulage companies, many of which are barely scraping a living as a result of the ongoing recession and the rising cost of...
- Topical Issue Debate: Road Tolls (9 Oct 2013)
Dessie Ellis: I noted the Minister of State's point that the decisions in this matter were taken by the National Roads Authority in conjunction with local authorities. It is clear, however, that the NRA introduced the pilot scheme in response to a request from the Minister. This indicates that the Minister has a certain amount of influence on what roads will be included in the scheme. As the main road...
- Order of Business (9 Oct 2013)
Dessie Ellis: I hope we might seek to deal with it by means of some mechanism. The case relating to the Gleann Riada estate is very special. As the Taoiseach is aware, explosions have occurred on the estate which is built on a flood plain. I have visited the estate and am aware that the conditions there are terrible.

Dessie Ellis: I thank the Minister for his presentation to the committee. The extra cost to the consumer is a concern and one which the Minister says he shares. I have a question about the issue of luggage charges. There are many variations in the airline industry. Ryanair has one charge while Aer Lingus has another. Will these charges be standardised or will it be left to the airlines?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Forthcoming Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council: Discussion with Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (9 Oct 2013)

- Order of Business (8 Oct 2013)
Dessie Ellis: More than three weeks ago, I raised the issue of the Pyrite Levy Bill and was told a submission would be made to the Cabinet on 23 September. Judging by the response the Taoiseach gave to Deputy Martin, there appears to be problems with this Bill. The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Deputy Hogan, promised the residents that this would be dealt with swiftly and...

Dessie Ellis: We have all experienced noisy neighbours and the feeling of powerlessness in dealing with them. The hands of the Garda Síochána are tied. The noise nuisance Bill has powers to impose on the spot fines as well as mediation. When will the Bill be brought before the House? It is a major issue when neighbours have parties.
