- Seanad: Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017: Committee Stage (Resumed) (14 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: No, the Minister is right to correct me. These are precious inshore fisheries, a vulnerable area that should be available to fishermen on this island. I will not press this amendment. I just wanted to commence the dialogue. The fishing organisations will argue this issue with the Minister. We must all fight it tooth and nail. He needs to show that these are natural, precious and...

Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: Yes. It is not right.
- Seanad: Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017: Committee Stage (Resumed) (14 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: The example of the Donegal fisherman with a Northern licence is not a sole example. It applies to a minority of inshore fishermen across the entire coast. When we discuss why that is the case, we get to the nub of the issue, namely, we do not have a one-size fits all playing pitch across the island in terms of licences. For example, cost and tonnage are not consistent across the island....
- Seanad: Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017: Committee Stage (Resumed) (14 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: Let us be clear on this issue. We have had this conversation previously in this Chamber and in other places. One of the main issues for the mussel industry is multinationals using addresses in the North of Ireland to access Northern Ireland fisheries to "plunder" our precious natural resource. In regard to tonnage, production collapsed from 29,500 tonnes in 2006 to 6,400 tonnes in 2016....

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (13 Mar 2019)
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: I echo the comments of colleagues who have appealed to the Government not to proceed with the Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017 tomorrow. This legislation was stalled two years ago after very robust debate in this Chamber, but no effort was made to consult the fisheries organisations in the intervening two years. There has been no consultation, even though those organisations outlined...

- Seanad: Update on Implementation of National Forestry Programme: Statements (27 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. The planting of large areas of land with trees, driven by grant aid and annual payments to landowners, has to be examined for its overall impact on communities and long-term impact on the land and the environment. The reason for very generous Government assistance for forestry is to encourage it as a means of reaching our commitments on climate...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Bill 2018: Discussion (19 Feb 2019)
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn: I must apologise. I had to step out for two votes in the Seanad. We were dealing with legislation. Apologies for the crossover of responsibilities today. However, I heard the ODCE's opening statement. As the ODCE representatives will be aware, the committee will be receiving its documentation and engaging on those issues. First, I want to go back to 2012. In 2012, Mr. Remy Farrell SC...
