- Seanad: Srebrenica Massacre: Motion (11 Jul 2017)
Frank Feighan: I thank the Minister of State and all the Senators for their contributions today. It is a very special day of commemoration. I agree with Senator Gavan that it is perhaps time to have an international Srebrenica memorial day.The UN, of which we are part, failed to protect Bosnian men, women and children in that enclave. I feel that many errors, misjudgments and mistakes were made. I would...
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Jul 2017)
Frank Feighan: I wish my colleague well on his forthcoming marriage. Everybody here seems to want to be invited to the wedding. To quote the old story about the politician and the difference between a wedding invitation and a speeding fine, the politician could do something about the speeding fine but not about the wedding invitation. We would be only too delighted to go to the wedding that night. I...
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Jul 2017)
Frank Feighan: The marching season is up and running. I hope that everything will work out in the coming weeks and that there will not be a vacuum that could let things get out of hand. A lot of good work has been done by the communities on all sides to ensure that this will not be the case. Everybody is talking about ambulance services. We absolutely need more ambulances in rural areas. I want to...
- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I concur with Senator Gallagher's remarks on Féile. My secretary brought a young team to Féile and he was in Derrygonnelly in Fermanagh. He waxed lyrical about the great welcome they got. It is nice to hear such goodwill being spoken about. On many occasions before Brexit I raised the issue of the European Medicines Agency located in Canary Wharf in London, and that if Brexit...

- Seanad: Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill 2016: Committee and Remaining Stages (28 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I have left Senator Leyden's hospital and accident and emergency department in great shape.
- Seanad: Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill 2016: Committee and Remaining Stages (28 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I am the only man------
- Seanad: Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill 2016: Committee and Remaining Stages (28 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I welcome all the members of Love Leitrim, Friends of the Earth, the Good Energies Alliance Ireland and all the people who put serious work into an issue about which they were very fearful. People power set this train in motion. I thank Deputy Tony McLoughlin for all the work done by him and his staff. People speak about new politics and it is a good news story that a Bill could be...
- Seanad: Home Care Services: Motion (28 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I, too, welcome the Minister who has been here four times in a week. He has probably been here more times than some Members in the past year. I thank him for attending and showing his enthusiasm. The Government is very determined to support older people to enable them to live independently and with dignity in their own homes and communities. As many Members know, the HSE provides a range...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Air Ambulance Service (27 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I raise the need for the Minister for Health to explore all options to extend the emergency aeromedical service based at Custume Barracks, in Athlone, to a night-time service. I am delighted to have an opportunity to speak about this vital service, which I helped secure in 2012 with the help of the then Minister for Health, now Senator James Reilly, and the then Minister for Justice and...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Air Ambulance Service (27 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I thank the Minister of State for his detailed response. I am encouraged that the Irish Coast Guard, located in Sligo and Shannon, can provide an air ambulance service at night. Five years ago, the provision of this air ambulance service came as a direct result of Roscommon hospital’s accident and emergency department being downgraded. People were quite certain that lives would be...
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: The House should remark on the incredible deal between the DUP and the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom. Effectively, it means £100 million per DUP MP and I hope the money will serve all communities. If there is one positive, the deal may help to re-establish the Northern Ireland Executive. I genuinely hope all parties can reach agreement because the Northern Ireland Executive...
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I will do it.
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I second Senator Norris's amendment. A serious issue has been ongoing in North Korea for many months. It has carried out five nuclear tests, creating considerable instability in the region and around the world. It looks as though North Korea will carry out a further six nuclear tests. Mr. Otto Warmbier, a young US student, was held for seven months before being brought home in recent...
- Seanad: National Housing Co-operative Bill 2017: First Stage (22 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I second the proposal.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: Was I the Minister? Thanks for elevating me.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: We will not get into that.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: On the issue of gardaí and the opening of Garda stations, I do not think that politicians should try to influence Garda operational decisions around the country.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: I would very much prefer to see a Garda in a squad car or on the beat than sitting in a Garda station effectively having tea. Things have changed with modern communications. It is much better to have gardaí out and around the place. I have seen it in a few areas where people were complaining that a Garda station was closed.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jun 2017)
Frank Feighan: What they did not realise was that no garda had been in that station for the previous four years. In Stepaside I think crime actually went down when the Garda station closed. The same was true in County Roscommon where some stations closed and the gardaí allocated the resources themselves. I do not have any say in that and thankfully the days are gone when I could ring a Garda station...
