- Written Answers — Department of Health: Health Services Staff Remuneration (23 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: 450. To ask the Minister for Health his views on the continuing failure to implement the European working time directive which was transposed into law through the Organisation of Working Time Act and, notwithstanding which, workers in the homeless sector and more particularly, those working with a centre (details supplied), continue to receive only €4.50 per hour from the HSE west...

Catherine Connolly: Do we have homework to do?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: Under the Act, the Minister has the responsibility to give permission or not for each contract for leases. It is not clear whatsoever if the Minister gave permission in this case. That is the question we have asked. I do not know where that answer is. We have got answers to parliamentary questions. We have got an answer from Caranua which is totally and utterly confusing. The message...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: To be fair to Caranua, it has replied to us. The difficulty is that the reply is not easy to interpret. The more serious difficulty is with the Department of Education and Skills and the Office of Public Works. I do not know who told Caranua it had to move. It seems to have been both the Office of Public Works and the Department. One or other of them is telling Caranua it has to pay rent...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: I know the Chairman has been very generous with the time. If he will allow me, when the Department official was here he said he would go away and check. That in itself was disingenuous because they have been involved with Caranua from day one. It has come up repeatedly in the minutes from 2013 in respect of the premises. The Department of Education and Skills is part of this process.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: We do not want a lease signed.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: I have one question which might be clarified in due course. It concerns section 4(b) of that long document, properties offered to the State and State bodies on a voluntary basis in 2009 and accepted for transfer. Do I take it that they have now been transferred and accepted? That is good news. However, being parochial, I do not know if St. Anne's, Lenaboy Castle at Taylor's Hill in...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: That was for 2009, it said it was accepted and transferred. The transfer might not have been completed, but has the offer been given and accepted?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: That building in particular has huge significance. I mix up the reformatories and industrial schools although I should not. It is lying idle. I was only there on Sunday. The former residents come back and visit it every year and go to the grotto. We have asked in the past for it to be transferred to the city council. At the time, they offered it to the Health Service Executive, which...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: Has he entered the race?
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: On the last occasion when Bord na gCon came before the committee I was overwhelmed by the gender equality. The thought occurred to me that if the board was more balanced, the industry might be in less difficulty. I say that tongue in check and semi seriously. My first question is whether any members of the board has a conflict of interest in any way?
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: On the previous occasion, I think the chairman said that the legislation pre-empted the members of the board from owning dogs?
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: Let me put my questions in context because I am not here to highlight stuff that is personal. My role is to ensure there is value for money. Obviously Bord na gCon is in trouble because of various problems in the past including a previous board that invested unwisely at a particular time but in addition there are serious issues in respect of governance and lack of integrity have been...
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: Numerous reports have highlighted governance issues, and there were serious issues in respect of animal welfare and the monitoring of illegal substances and so on. In that context have any members of the board got a conflict of interest?
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: When Mr. Meaney inadvertently told the Committee of Public Accounts that members of the board were not allowed to own greyhounds on the last occasion, that was incorrect?
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: What was said on the last occasion, which I found amusing, given the lack of gender representation was that none of the board members had dogs but there were dogs in the names of their wives.
- Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon: Financial Statements 2015 (Resumed) (18 May 2017)
Catherine Connolly: Is that true?
