Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Working Conditions and Skills Shortages in Tourism and Hospitality Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Apr 2022)

Imelda Munster: Sorry, no, I have got Mr. Fenn's answer, which was quite detailed but which still does not solve the sector's problems. Perhaps it should be considered whether or not any moves the sector or some employers are making are sufficient, and perhaps others are making no moves at all. I imagine that if things in the sector do not improve, the staff shortage is set to continue. The RAI referred...

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Working Conditions and Skills Shortages in Tourism and Hospitality Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Apr 2022)

Imelda Munster: I do not know if all the members are present. Maybe we could agree to write to the Minister at the next meeting, among the items to raise. Today's primary issue was staff shortages, pay and conditions for workers, etc. Perhaps when we have a full team we can agree on writing the letter. I suggested we write to the Minister to ask her about the difficulty with the permits. Perhaps we can...

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(31 Mar 2022)

Imelda Munster: There is retraining or further training. The Commissioner gave us some figures. Can he provide an up-to-date figure without those cases that could warrant cancellation? Initially there were 200,000 calls and then a further 19,000 were identified as having been cancelled. Can the Commissioner give an up-to-date figure of the total number of cancelled calls that could not be justified?

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána

Imelda Munster: Sorry, what was the reason for that?

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(31 Mar 2022)

Imelda Munster: Was that because the calls were cancelled initially, there was no follow-up and they were not logged?

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(31 Mar 2022)

Imelda Munster: I asked about prosecutions earlier. What about disciplinary procedures as a result of the missed calls and so on? It was reported that gardaí had discussed in a WhatsApp group exactly how to circumvent having to deal with those emergency 999 calls. Did the investigation seek access to that chat group?

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(31 Mar 2022)

Imelda Munster: Before that, 134 cases were not prosecuted. Does the Commissioner feel that is a crime in itself? I am referring to gardaí not doing their job.

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts

Imelda Munster: Two gardaí.

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(31 Mar 2022)

Imelda Munster: All right. I appreciate that this is ongoing to a certain extent, but given that there were 2,932 cancelled domestic violence calls, I would be worried that there are just two gardaí suspended. Two gardaí did not cancel 2,932 domestic violence calls. Then there are all the other ones. This was widespread.

Services for Children with Disabilities: Motion [Private Members] (29 Mar 2022)

Imelda Munster: I commend an Teachta Tully on her hard work on this issue and on tabling this motion. We tabled this motion to demand that the Government and the HSE protect the rights of children with disabilities and to ensure they can access the services they need. The situation at the moment is dire. Children are not getting an appropriate AON procedure and they are not accessing the services they...
