Written Answers — Department of Health: Health Services Staff Recruitment (28 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: 145. To ask the Minister for Health his plans to review the recruitment process for community hospitals in view of the fact that the current process is not functioning; if so, the timeframe for the review; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [49498/19]

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I know but I am being interrupted. I support the beef farmers outside the gate. I have a question for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine who I am glad is here. It was clear under the beef exceptional aid measure, BEAM, that he introduced that if a farmer sold cattle in a mart and the cattle were killed within 30 days, he could claim €100. What is happening in Kerry...

Finance Bill 2019: Report Stage (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: That is fine. I am just glad to get the opportunity to say a few words on this matter. I got annoyed when I heard the Minister of State saying that people in rural Ireland should not expect to be paid to live there.

Finance Bill 2019: Report Stage (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I am just asking him to leave the people of rural Ireland alone and that is also all those people are asking for. He will not leave them alone, however. He was talking about the rebate scheme, but that does not apply to green diesel. The cost of fuel is going up and many people cannot get a rebate on white diesel either. It is not possible to go anywhere in rural Ireland without a car. I...

Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I am glad to have the opportunity to talk about this issue, but in the couple of minutes I have I cannot cover what I should be covering. The people working in the accident and emergency department of University Hospital Kerry in Tralee have to be complimented. Oireachtas Members had a meeting with officials from the HSE a couple of weeks ago and I highlighted the fact that people in Tralee...

Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: He will listen to the people on the doorsteps and he will listen to them when he comes to Kerry. It is a fact that only half of the hospital in Kenmare and half of the beds in Dingle are open. At the same time, people are crying out loud to get into hospital. The Minister is doing nothing about that. He said he has advertised for staff, but he will not pay them or give them fair conditions.

Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: It is the same for the GP services in Milltown, Rathmore and other places. The Minister should not make faces or make fun of me.

Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I will tell the Minister the truth. Deputy Mattie McGrath called for his resignation a long time ago. I am calling for it now because he does not deserve to be in office as he is a shame and a downright disgrace. He is not listening; he is laughing, grinning and making faces at us. He has no realisation of what he has done to the people in Kerry and the services he is not providing to...

Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: He is a shame and a disgrace.

Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Danny Healy-Rae: He is a disgrace.

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I want to raise the issue of forestry services and the inaction in that part of agriculture. Hardly any felling licences have been granted this year. The building of roads has been held up, where farmers have invested money in forestry and they are not being allowed to build roads because of serial objectors objecting to permission for building these roads. The Government has angered and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I welcome the witnesses. They are only doing their jobs. It is difficult for me to stomach what I have heard at this meeting regarding what is happening in the midlands, especially because, although I have always believed the climate changed, I do not subscribe to the reasons being given for that. The decision to close many of these plants within a year as a result of the ruling of An Bord...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: How are those in the service industry, the little shops, the filling stations or whatever, going to survive after the jobs are shut down? The other thing that I am amazed at is that no one here knows the definition of the boundaries of the places that are going to get assistance. It is amazing that no one here can define that in spite of the fact that the Government is bragging and blowing...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I will just ask the other ones. What is going to supply the grid if, as we say, the wind slows down? Are we going to be able to store the electricity from the wind farms? I am not sure that we can. One talks about reskilling workers but for what? What are the jobs that one is talking about? What jobs are we going to put people into? It is fine to say they will be reskilled, but what...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Workforce Planning in the Mental Healthcare Sector: Discussion (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I am glad I have the opportunity to discus this important issue. I welcome the witnesses and thank them for their help. Many families and communities in Kerry have been ravaged by mental health issues, resulting in suicide and the loss of family members, which has rocked families and communities to the core. We are sick and tired of the Government talking up the financial improvement in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Workforce Planning in the Mental Healthcare Sector: Discussion (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: I apologise. Major capital spending is needed for one 24-hour supervised residence in Kerry. I appeal to this committee, the Minister for Health and the Department to provide this service in Kerry because it is not available when it should be. There are no services at all on the weekends. Staff also have relatively little training in areas that are recommended for people with severe...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Workforce Planning in the Mental Healthcare Sector: Discussion (20 Nov 2019)

Danny Healy-Rae: Can I just add in support-----
