Michael Harty: I have some questions. Will the legislation cover single parents? Will it cover same-sex couples? Will there be any restriction on that? Hospital Trolley Crisis: Motion [Private Members] (16 Jan 2018)

Michael Harty: I thank Sinn Féin for bringing forward this motion and I thank the Minister for sitting through the entire debate. The main issue in trying to solve the problem in our health service is trying to achieve political drive and buy-in. It is a huge problem and nobody underestimates the challenge to be faced in solving the problems in our health service. It is a considerable challenge but...

Michael Harty: I thank the Chairman and welcome Professor O'Connor and the members of the Irish College of General Practitioners, ICGP. I thank them for coming in this morning. Since we are dealing with the primary care module this morning, I will concentrate on that. To give the witnesses an opportunity to answer my questions I will limit them to a minute if I can. Professor O'Connor referred to an...

European Council Meeting: Statements (13 Dec 2017)

Michael Harty: I wish the Minister of State the best of luck in the EU meetings on Thursday and Friday. The agreement that has been negotiated is a result of the united front the Government has been able to provide in its negotiating stance. That is in contrast to the obvious divisions within the Government of the United Kingdom, which have been illustrated by a solemnly negotiated report and agreement...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Hospital Consultants Contract: Discussion (13 Dec 2017)

Michael Harty: I thank Mr. Woods. I have a few comments. As I am from the same part of the country as Ms Cowan, I understand the difficulties involved in the mid-west. Most consultants that I am aware of work extremely hard. They work in excess of their hours, as Ms Cowan has said, and give service way over their contract requirements. The issue raised on the programme is that there is a cohort of...
