Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Issues Facing the Residential Rental Sector: Discussion (15 Jul 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I will ask a couple of questions myself. I have been listening in. I remember we had an issue at home ten years ago and got very poor service from the RTB. Things have changed. That was down to the resourcing of the organisation and a lot of improvement have made sense but I am picking up very strongly that the board is still under-resourced for what needs to be done in the future. What...

We might invite the RTB back again at a later stage in the autumn or spring, hopefully following additional resourcing being put in place for the organisation.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Issues Facing the Residential Rental Sector: Discussion (15 Jul 2025)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Planning and Development (Street Furniture Fees) Regulations 2025: Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage (15 Jul 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I advise members of the constitutional requirement that they must be physically present within the confines of the Leinster House complex to participate in public meetings. The draft Planning and Development (Street Furniture Fees) Regulations 2025 was laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas on 4 July last. Both the Dáil and Seanad have referred it to this committee for...

Micheál Carrigy: I will make a quick comment before we finish. I saw the benefit of street furniture during Covid. It is still in place in a number of businesses and it adds to the vibrancy of local towns. I also welcome these regulations for that reason. I thank the Minister and his officials for assisting the committee in its consideration of this matter today.

Micheál Carrigy: The just transition fund has delivered more than €169 million into the midlands and is in place until 2027. However, a significant number of local projects struggled to gain the matched funding to deliver those projects on time. I am looking for the Government to seek an extension on that just transition drawdown so these projects can be completed. I want the Government to look at...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Jul 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I see the advantages of it. Longford Town plays matches every week but fans cannot travel to Ballybofey or Cork. The service is available for them to watch. I think both witnesses mentioned that there are opportunities within the media fund both for GAA+ and LOITV to do more programming to promote Gaelic games and League of Ireland soccer respectively.
