- Programmes for Government. (1 Jul 2009)
Enda Kenny: I am not sure what the Ceann Comhairle's rules are but the Taoiseach is in a privileged position. On the last three occasions he answered questions, he spoke for at least 20 minutes. The Ceann Comhairle interprets the rules his way and he will shut me and Deputy Gilmore up very quickly.
- Programmes for Government. (1 Jul 2009)
Enda Kenny: I do not object to hearing the Taoiseach speak but we get a 20 minute lecture on each occasion. In response to Deputy à Caoláin, the Taoiseach spoke about being honest and straightforward, about the democratic politics we have here - 75% of the people might have voted against the Government in the recent elections - and about being straight with the facts. When he spoke about the...

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach said this was the slowest rate of increase and that it was actually decreasing. It means 21,721 extra men and women signed on the dole. In the first six months of the year, 127,000, that is 1,000 every day, have signed on. If we are to be straightforward and up-front with the facts, these are the figures that must be recognised, not the seasonally adjusted figures. They refer...

The Taoiseach knows the figures that will be released by the CSO at 11 o'clock for the live register for June. Will he tell the House what the figures are?
- Leaders' Questions (1 Jul 2009)
Enda Kenny: The Civil Service-speak, that this is the slowest rate of increase, demonstrates just where we are. In January the rate of increase was 33,000, in February it was 26,000, in March it was 20,000, in April it was 15,000, in May it was 13,000 and in June it was 11,400. This economy is in crisis. It is a long time since one of the Taoiseach's predecessors said that if unemployment went over...

Enda Kenny: I ask the Taoiseach whether the Government has taken a firmer view on when the second referendum on Lisbon will be held. When we say early October, are we talking about the 2nd, 3rd, 9th or 10th? Second, I see that some reports are beginning to be leaked from An Bord Snip Nua. I understand the Government will receive this report formally on Thursday or Friday. Is it intended that...
- Order of Business (30 Jun 2009)
Enda Kenny: It would give the Minister for Health and Children the opportunity to say something also. Somebody has to find this out anyway. While measures are in place to prevent it happening again, it happened in this case and these patients were abused. Some nine or ten reasons are given in the Fine Gael-Labour motion as to why that happened, but somebody needs to find out.
