- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government: Housing in Ireland - Census 2016 Results: Central Statistics Office (10 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I am discussing the matter with everybody on the committee. I want to make this point because I do not want to hear again about Airbnb causing the housing crisis; talk about clutching at straws. The reasons there is a housing crisis are the three reasons I have outlined . Nothing has been done about rent, nothing is being built and the vacant units are being allowed to sit there. Airbnb is...
- Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Taxi Regulations (9 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: 614. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will alter the manner in which resitting of the PSV test for taxi drivers is done in order that those failing one module do not have to resit both modules when resitting the test. [21612/17]
- Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Taxi Regulations (9 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: 615. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will alter the manner in which feedback is given to those who fail the PSV test for taxi drivers in order that there is a question by question result rather than by topic. [21613/17]
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government: Thirty-fifth Amendment of the Constitution (Water in Public Ownership) (No. 2) Bill 2016: Discussion (4 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I obviously support the Bill and happily signed it. There has been huge concern in the opposition to water charges that the final intention was to privatise water. It is not an idle concern; it is an obvious one. It happened with bin services that once charges were introduced, the services were eventually privatised. When we had these debates in the Dáil it was said that nobody in...
- Questions on Promised Legislation (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: When will the Government move into the 21st century?
- Leaders' Questions (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: Was the Citizen's Assembly a waste of time then?
- Leaders' Questions (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I am sure it is.
- Leaders' Questions (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I hope the Minister will answer this on his second chance. I know it is coming back to a committee and to the Oireachtas. My question was if members of Fine Gael will implement these findings or if will they ignore them. When they get onto the committee, will they seek to respect the deliberations of the Citizens' Assembly, or will they seek to water them down? The Minister and many other...
- Leaders' Questions (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: Obviously I would prefer if it was the Taoiseach answering today, no offence, because I wanted to ask him his views on two words which have not been uttered in the Dáil since it reported, namely, the Citizens' Assembly. Last autumn, the Taoiseach set up the Citizens' Assembly. He made it very clear it would do a first-class job. Ten days ago, the assembly finished its deliberations...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Hospitals Patronage (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: 16. To ask the Minister for Health his views on the ownership of hospitals by religious organisations; if he will review this situation, in view of the extensive public funding over decades of these hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20687/17]
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Hospitals Patronage (3 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: 30. To ask the Minister for Health his views on the governance arrangements for the National Maternity Hospital upon moving to Elm Park, Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20686/17]
- Standing Order 27: Motion (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: What about amendment No. 1 in my name and amendment No. 3 in the name of Deputy Joan Collins?
- Standing Order 27: Motion (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I thought they had to be mentioned now.
- Standing Order 27: Motion (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: There does not seem to be many groups attending the debate. If there was a need for it could we have a little bit of extra time? We have only two and a half minutes each.
- Standing Order 27: Motion (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I thought the Leas-Cheann Comhairle could use his discretion. Labour Party Deputies and others are not here.
- Standing Order 27: Motion (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: The proposal is baffling. A debate took place in the Dáil reform committee about a Dáil prayer in the national Parliament and many people objected to it. Now there will be a requirement - a compulsion and obligation - for all Deputies present to stand. It takes away the voluntary nature of it. There will be potential disciplinary action if a Deputy does not comply. At a time...
- Order of Business (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: Not agreed. I am very surprised at the time of the debate on the motion re Standing Order 27 on the Dáil prayer. The proposal is a little bit of an insult. There has been an ongoing discussion and debate at the Dáil reform committee on the issue, in which there is also public interest. Scheduling five minutes per group, given that there are amendments tabled, is also a bit of an...
- Order of Business (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: Can I finish the point?
- Order of Business (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: I know that it was raised that it was going to go through without debate. We challenged this before Easter. If a debate is to be scheduled, there should at least be time for a serious debate. For example, Fine Gael is to have five minutes. I am sure there are many views on the issue in Fine Gael; similarly in our group or Fianna Fáil. Having five minutes each is a bit of an insult....
- Order of Business (2 May 2017)
Ruth Coppinger: The prayer is seen in this light. There has to be change. Could we not afford more time for the debate?
