- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Dec 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: There has been much controversy this morning about the ¤26 million taken from the carer?s respite grant. The controversy, which should never have happened, will not go away. As an Independent Senator who has, as some describe it, been parachuted in by the Taoiseach, I cannot stand over it. It is profoundly wrong. I respectfully suggest to the Fine Gael and Labour Senators and Deputies...
- Seanad: Report of the Expert Group on the Judgment in the A, B and C v. Ireland Case: Statements (6 Dec 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: I thank the Minister for coming to the House. Many Senators are not present as they are attending a lecture on human rights by the Secretary of State, Mrs. Hilary Clinton, at Dublin City University. I was going to ask Senator Averil Power to stay because what I have to say locks directly into what she said. I feel a little like Mrs. Roosevelt. Human rights start in one's own kitchen,...

- Seanad: Budget 2013: Statements (5 Dec 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: I will not need that long. The most interesting line of the Minister's speech was at the beginning, when he said Bank of Ireland, AIB and Bord Gáis had all raised funds. I nearly fell off my chair. He did not say what funds, how much the funds were, where they were or how we could get access to them. Perhaps the Minister of State will be able to inform me because I would like to find out...
- Seanad: Budget 2013: Statements (5 Dec 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: What of the Bord Gáis funds? The gas bills are so high that old people have to live in one room to keep warm. We have raised funds - the funds have come from us, the middle men. I commend the allocation of ¤17 million to the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. This is extremely important because education and young people are the beginnings of a great country, and that is where the...

- Seanad: Budget 2013: Statements (5 Dec 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: On a serious point of order, Senator Norris is entirely correct. However, Senator Zappone was not speaking for me when she said that we were prepared to get rid of all allowances and throw them to the wind. She was speaking entirely for herself.

Marie Louise O'Donnell: May I speak?
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Banking Sector Remuneration (15 Nov 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: The Minister will be aware of the stark examples of extremely high salaries and pensions. Where any organisation, quarter, public service, banking or insurance company is guilty of salaries and pensions outside the common good, I believe that as a Senator I have to ask the Minister to alter that and to viably do so. If I were to give one simple example it would be the 227 people who work...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: I second Senator Whelan's call to establish an inquiry in to the death of Fr. Molloy. Fine Gael and the Labour Party pledged to order a full review. I would like to find out what the Minister has to say on the matter. I want him to come here to let us know what has happened the review, has it begun or is it happening somewhere that we do not know about. If not, when does he intend to begin it?
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2012)
Marie Louise O'Donnell: On a point of order, this is outrageous. Two inquiries are being held.
