Constitutional Reform (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: That is the truth.

Order of Business. (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Has the Taoiseach had an opportunity to speak to the new British Prime Minister or is there an arrangement for him to meet Mr. Cameron to discuss matters of mutual interest, in particular regarding economic cross-Border activities? Has the Taoiseach put a call through or is he booked on the list of calls? There has been a deal of comment about the proposals by Eirgrid to deal with the...

Leaders' Questions. (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: First, I should congratulate the new British Prime Minister, David Cameron, and his deputy, Nick Clegg, on forming a government in Britain and I wish them the best of luck in their onerous duties. I pay tribute to the departed Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, particularly for his interest in Northern Ireland and for the work he did there. For years, Deputy Bruton, in particular, has pointed out...

Leaders' Questions. (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: That is the reply of a desperate man who is throwing bait that he expects somebody to rise to but I will not do that. The Taoiseach, Deputy Cowen, was Minister for Finance and he is now Head of Government. He has brought our country to an excessive deficit position through gross mismanagement of our economy and a complete inability to have the courage to debate issues in the House,...

Leaders' Questions. (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: -----priorities for that budget, where moneys might be shifted from one Vote to another depending on agreement on those priorities and leave us in control of our own economic affairs, determining what our budget should be and deciding what should be the impact on people. Can I take it that the Taoiseach does not agree with proposals that would diminish the extent and strength of our...

Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Question 1: To ask the Taoiseach Taoiseach the cost of the Communications Unit in his Department in February 2010; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12956/10]

Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: We have raised these questions on previous occasions. As I understand it, the Departments were to cease contracts for independent news monitoring services on a daily basis. From looking at the costs, can the Taoiseach confirm this has actually happened and that the communications unit now supplies all the news monitoring information to Departments, thereby creating a saving overall?

Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: I take the Taoiseach's point about national newspapers and national news. Last week CIE announced that the DART underground project would be delayed until 2018. This was because of planning delays, even though a planning application has not been lodged. Somebody forgot to tell the Minister for Transport, however. Will the Taoiseach say whether the communications unit monitors...

Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: This issue was on the national news.

Constitutional Reform (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Question 2: To ask the Taoiseach the position regarding the implementation of the recommendations of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12964/10]

Constitutional Reform (12 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Will the Taoiseach confirm whether the Minister of State with responsibility for children was given an allocation of €3 million to hold a referendum this year on children's rights?

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Question 1: To ask the Taoiseach the costs which accrued to his Department in February 2010 in respect of the Moriarty tribunal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12954/10]

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Question 2: To ask the Taoiseach the projected additional costs that will accrue to his Department arising from the decision of the Moriarty tribunal to hold additional public sittings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12955/10]

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: This tribunal has been going on for many years. According to the figures produced by the Taoiseach, it has cost almost €40 million. As he said, we are not yet in a position to know what the third party costs might be. Some of the legal people employed by the tribunal have cost in excess of €1,000 a day. Given the significant increase in costs because witnesses have had to be called as...

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Some of the young students in the Visitors Gallery were only small children when this tribunal began. It is clear from the figures the Taoiseach has given today and in the past that members of the tribunal and its legal team are exceptionally well rewarded for the work in which they have been engaged, yet two serious errors occurred, both of which were admitted by the tribunal chairman and...

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: I know that.

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: What is another year?

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: We have had this before. Who knows what evidence Mr. Andersen will give when he gets in there or what will be the reaction to that from others?

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: Will the Ceann Comhairle advise me what is the thin line?

Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)

Enda Kenny: The questions are about the costs of the tribunal, for which the Taoiseach's Department is responsible. It was set up by the Oireachtas and is paid for by the Ceann Comhairle and every other taxpayer.
