Michael Fitzmaurice: Deputy Ring, can you reset the screen or something? It is frozen at present. Is Deputy Martin Browne trying to come in? If we cannot get Deputy Ring in, is Deputy Martin Browne back? Deputy Browne has his hand up.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Ash Dieback and its Impact on the Private Forestry Sector: Discussion (22 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Unfortunately, we lost contact with Deputy Ring. Everyone has made the points that they wanted to. On behalf of the committee, I thank Mr. White and Mr. O'Connell for coming in. It has been interesting. The committee will have listened to what they have said and will continue looking into this matter. I can assure them of that. In fairness to the Chairman, Deputy Cahill, he spent a...

Written Answers — Department of Finance: Tax Code (21 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: 163. To ask the Minister for Finance if he will raise the capital acquisitions thresholds between aunt and uncles to nieces and nephew; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31930/22]

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Flood Risk Management (16 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: We welcome the Minister of State's statement that he fully supports us and that he will try to resolve this situation. That said, while someone can support a team, winning the All-Ireland is a different matter. These people need a solution. They need dates and times as well as a clear pathway forward. First, they need a pathway for next winter because the pumps and so on will have to go,...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Flood Risk Management (16 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: It is my understanding that Roscommon County Council has issued a letter to the Minister of State, Deputy O'Donovan, asking him to take charge of all this, including appropriate assessments, environmental impact assessments, EIAs, and the screening out of works the courts sometimes did not recognise. It is also my understanding that the Minister of State is in the process of putting...

Energy Security: Motion [Private Members] (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I support the motion. In the electricity sector, new companies came in such as Iberdrola. Up to last February, companies signed up with Iberdrola. All of a sudden, it decided it was leaving the market. Those who enter into a contract are supposed to honour it. Any person who enters into a building contract or whatever can be sued if they do not honour it. These seem to be able to walk...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I am sorry to interrupt the Senator, but I might ask Ms Eade to refer back to the committee when she has looked at that issue for the benefit of the Senator and the various Deputies.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank the witnesses for coming before the committee. I wish Ms Eade the best of luck during her term of office and in areas she intends to look at or change. Regarding corporate rules, should there be a cooling-off period when Ms Eade leaves her job so that she does not get involved straightaway in other parts of the horse industry or is directly employed in the horse industry?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I am referring to anybody in Ms Eade's position. I am not picking on Ms Eade.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: I refer to Ms Eade's targets and issues she will look at. As regards the system used for the cattle around the country, if I want to know where a tag number of an animal is at this minute, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine can provide that information through the animal identification and movement, AIM, system. In fairness to the Department, it is one of the best systems in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: How quickly will that priority be achieved? Officials from the Department appeared before the committee about six months ago and we were told they were working on the system last year. We are now halfway through 2022. What stage it is at? Is HRI providing support? How quickly will the system be in place for horse racing? It would address a perception of horse racing.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: At the moment, if an animal is in a mart, it is accountable no more than if a horse is racing. If it is with the farmer or in bed and breakfast, the Department knows exactly where it is. Is that the system HRI intends to use and how soon does HRI intend to have it in place?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)

Michael Fitzmaurice: Is this the same Weatherbys that when there was a dispute over stud fees gave the books to the stud owner and not the foal owner?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Strategic Priorities for Horse Racing Ireland: Discussion (15 Jun 2022)
