Micheál Carrigy: A fair point. I want to say to Ms Cusack about the exit package that €450,000 is a lot of money. In her role she is responsible to the taxpayer but, one, she did not question the approval process, and two, she did not ask how savings would be achieved, and yet she signed off on the approval by the executive board despite the fact she knew it was not approved by the board. I am the...

Micheál Carrigy: I totally accept that they might not happen again but the confidence of licence fee payers is going down the Swanee because people who made significant mistakes in senior roles in the organisation have us here today. Ultimately, the money that is not being received from the licence fees will have be got from the Exchequer. That is the reality.

Micheál Carrigy: I wish to address the chair of the board. Mr. Bakhurst mentioned, I think, being on the set of “Dancing with the Stars”. It brings me back to a statement I made with regard to this committee, on behalf of the taxpayer, nominating a person to the board who was not wanted by the chair of the board at the time. There was a threat to pull “Dancing with the Stars”...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (13 Feb 2024)
Micheál Carrigy: I raise an issue I have been made aware of with respect to mental health services in my home county of Longford. I have been told that the HSE plans to close a five-bed unit at Hillcrest House in Longford, reducing the number of beds available from 15 to ten. No correspondence has been sent to any of the Oireachtas Members. We are hearing about this without warning. I do not think it is...
- Seanad: Death of Former Taoiseach: Expressions of Sympathy (7 Feb 2024)
Micheál Carrigy: I pass on my sympathies to Finola and the family and our colleague, Richard, on the sad passing of a former colleague of ours. One line I saw written stated that John Bruton did his country a great service. That is something he did and it is something that all of us involved in political life strive for to be said about our service to our country, and we will hopefully be in political life...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (31 Jan 2024)
Micheál Carrigy: I support the comments made by Senator Keogan. It is my home area, so I think she is right in saying we should let Ann, Patricia and all the family rest in peace. The survey of the top ten towns in Ireland from a work-life balance perspective was mentioned earlier. I note the top two towns on the list are Castlebar and Ballina in County Mayo. Third on the list is Longford, in my home...
