Justice Issues: Statements (28 Nov 2017)

Catherine Connolly: .... Most importantly, the report identified five key recommendations out of a total of eight. It commented that the Department of Justice and Equality's officials were far too deferential to An Garda Síochána. The report specifically gave timelines of three months, 12 months and two years. The review group made a very important offer. It said that it was prepared to meet twice...

Public Accounts Committee: 2016 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Chapter 12 - Management of Ancillary Services at the Garda Training College
(23 Nov 2017)

Catherine Connolly: Is it correct that at one point it went to An Garda Síochána and it took the money for that land?

Public Accounts Committee: 2016 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Chapter 12 - Management of Ancillary Services at the Garda Training College
(23 Nov 2017)

Catherine Connolly: And has the Office of Public Works received the money that An Garda Síochána received for that rent?

Public Accounts Committee: 2016 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Chapter 12 - Management of Ancillary Services at the Garda Training College
(23 Nov 2017)

Catherine Connolly: An Garda Síochána, to be fair to it, wrote to the Office of Public Works in 2008 about the arrangement. There does not appear to be any response in the records. Did the witnesses clarify or check this before coming into this meeting?

Public Accounts Committee: 2016 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Chapter 12 - Management of Ancillary Services at the Garda Training College
(23 Nov 2017)

Catherine Connolly: ...of Public Works, there is a vital role for it but a gap has been identified here. The Office of Public Works did not respond in 2008. Money was received and used legitimately, according to An Garda Síochána. The gap was on the part of the Office of Public Works. There has been a recommendation that the Office of Public Works actively examine that. Mr. Bourke says that the...

Leaders' Questions (16 Nov 2017)

Catherine Connolly: ...while ignoring the limitations of that European research. It is limited to women only, which is a very small group of people. There are many other deficits in that research. The Taoiseach referred to Garda reports which, we all know, cannot be relied on. He referred to existing organisations coming up with information. Rape Crisis Network Ireland announced on 19 October this year that...

Tracker Mortgages: Motion [Private Members] (25 Oct 2017)

Catherine Connolly: .... We hear talk of the culture not having changed. The word is not "culture". That is a misuse of language. What the banks have done is wrong, in my opinion, criminally wrong, and there should be a serious Garda investigation into it. At the very least what we should have from the Government tonight is a serious report from the Central Bank and the Financial Services Ombudsman on what...

Public Accounts Committee: Tusla - Financial Statements 2016 (19 Oct 2017)

Catherine Connolly: .... I want to ask Mr. McBride a specific question. I apologise if I am blunt but it is the nature of the time restrictions on us. To go back to Dr. Geoffrey Shannon's report on section 12 and An Garda Síochána, was that published earlier this year or was it at the end of 2016?

Public Accounts Committee: Tusla - Financial Statements 2016 (19 Oct 2017)

Catherine Connolly: There were very specific recommendations in it in respect of Tusla and An Garda Síochána. Specifically in respect of Tusla, a number of recommendations were made and a period of time was given in which it was to fulfil those recommendations and report back. Where is it in that process?

Public Accounts Committee: Tusla - Financial Statements 2016 (19 Oct 2017)

Catherine Connolly: ...not with Mr. McBride, but with the language being used. Dr. Geoffrey Shannon came up with very specific recommendations because of the failure of communication on the ground between Tusla and An Garda Síochána in exercising its duty in respect of section 12. Is that not right?

Public Accounts Committee: Tusla - Financial Statements 2016 (19 Oct 2017)

Catherine Connolly: Absolutely. I can quote the recommendations to Mr. McBride. There was no follow-up with An Garda Síochána and there was no one to explain the situation to the gardaí in question after they did their best in taking a child into care in an emergency. Nobody from Tusla was coming back to them and guiding them. There are all sorts of recommendations here in respect of training....
