- EU Summits (7 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Question 4: To ask the Taoiseach Taoiseach if he will report on his attendance at the June meeting of the European Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27644/10]
- EU Summits (7 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Perhaps the Taoiseach should recognise that the two banking reports indicated that 75% of the crisis was home grown. He does not refer to that very often. When does the Taoiseach expect to publish the national reform programme? The EU 2020 strategy adopted at the Council on 17 June provides for a plan for jobs and smart sustainable growth. It is accepted that the strategy will assist EU...
- EU Summits (7 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: In December 2008, the Government published its framework for sustainable economic renewal which contained 125 action points. I have referred previously to one of those points which was new, the innovation fund of â¬500 million. I ask the Taoiseach to clarify the position. My understanding is that nothing has yet been spent with regard to this fund. Is this â¬500 million still intact?...
- EU Summits (7 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: I ask the Taoiseach to clarify what is the current status of that fund.
- Order of Business (7 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach could not care less.
- Tribunals of Inquiry (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Question 1: To ask the Taoiseach Taoiseach the costs that accrued to his Department in respect of the Moriarty Tribunal during May 2010; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25057/10]
- Tribunals of Inquiry (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Did the letter agreed by all of the leaders of the parties here in respect of the conclusion of the Moriarty tribunal go to the sole member and has the sole member responded to it?
- Tribunals of Inquiry (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: The fees paid to legal teams in the Saville inquiry amounted to just half of what has been paid to the Moriarty tribunal. In 12 years, the Queen's Counsel and four junior counsel earned a total of â¬16.1 million, â¬13 million less than has been paid to the Moriarty legal team to end-April 2010, a bill which is ongoing. The Taoiseach is aware that it was the tradition that solicitors from...
- Tribunals of Inquiry (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: On that, in July 2008 the Minister for Finance said that it was decided that legal counsels to the tribunal would no longer be paid once public hearings were completed and the Government told Departments to which the tribunals report that tribunal legal teams, including the â¬2,700 a day senior counsel, should be let go. The tribunal has met on only a handful of occasions since last July....
- Tribunals of Inquiry (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: The letter sent to the sole member from the leaders of the parties in the House reflected the fact that the sole member himself had indicated that his work is 80% or 90% concluded in respect of both the money trail element and the licence issue. I hope the tribunal will be able to report in its entirety in the timescale envisaged by the sole member. That would be in everybody's interest.
- Regulatory Reform (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Question 4: To ask the Taoiseach Taoiseach if he will report on the Implementation of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development report on regulatory reform; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25058/10]
- Regulatory Reform (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: I would need to read the reply three or four times to understand the actual meaning of some of the phraseology given to the Taoiseach. In 2008, the Government said it intended to reduce red tape for business by 25% by 2012. It is perfectly obvious that many businesses in this country are being strangled by having to allocate serious resources to deal with it, that is, a person spending half...
- Order of Business (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: It is not agreed. The reason it is not agreed is that I understand there are approximately 80 amendments. One of these amendments is key to what the Government proposes, the method by which head shops can be closed down. I am informed by Deputy Shatter that the Government is using a very circuitous route indeed. A range of Deputies wish to speak on this Bill. It is not possible to deal...
- Order of Business (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Mar adúirt mé cheana, tá sé molta ag an Rialtas an Bille seo a chur trÃd an Teach, ionas nach mbeidh na toghcháin ar siúil i Mà Deireadh Fomhair na bliana seo. Tá a fhios ag an Taoiseach go bhfuil toghcháin Ãdarás na Gaeltachta ag teastáil. Beimid ag vótáil in éadan an Bhille seo. Is miste liom go gcuirfear trÃd an Dáil é sa chaoi seo. Dá bhrà sin, tá me i gcoinne an...
- Order of Business (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Tá faitÃos orthu.
- Order of Business (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Can the Taoiseach indicate what Bills are likely to be published during the forthcoming recess? A number of Bills have been referred to that were to have been published during the course of this Dáil session but obviously will not be. However, I understand a number of Bills will be published during the summer recess and the Taoiseach should give an indication in this regard. I refer to...
- Order of Business (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: Good man, that is better.
- Leaders' Questions. (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: In the past half an hour or so, the report of the independent group on mortgage arrears and personal debt has been published. The report shows clearly that the reckless management and incompetence of the Government are now casting aside the approximate 33,000 people in mortgage arrears and the 250,000 in negative equity. The strain, anxiety and pressure on these people are difficult to...
- Leaders' Questions. (6 Jul 2010)
Enda Kenny: There is no fuzzy thinking here. The Taoiseach said the taxpayer would not be at a loss because of the injection into Anglo Irish Bank. We now have a situation where he admits that more than â¬20 billion is lost forever down a black hole. Think of what could be done in our country if that type of money were being pumped into construction, infrastructure or jobs. Second, the Taoiseach was...
