- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays Affecting Car Tests and Driver Tests: Discussion (1 Feb 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: This has been coming down the road - no pun intended - for a long time. What would the RSA's ask have been, and how early would it have been, to the Department and Government? Why at this point in time if 170 permanent staff are needed is it looking for a smaller number of non-permanent staff?

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I get that and I understand why some of it is. I imagine there is also an element, and I am not putting it on the witnesses, that a plan could have been based on future projections on the basis of changed demographics.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays Affecting Car Tests and Driver Tests: Discussion (1 Feb 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: There is an element of taking what it can get at this time but on the whole, the RSA's request is for 170 testers. In a perfect world, if the RSA could deliver what it needs and what we all need it would be 170 testers.

Ruairí Ó Murchú: We would all then be in a better scenario in relation to the calls we get. This issue needs to be followed up, as it seems that unless we are talking about those sorts of numbers, we will constantly be in this particular situation.

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Middle East (31 Jan 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: I think it is accepted across the board what Israel is doing and what it has done to the Palestinians. Things are getting worse with a very right-wing and racist Government.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Middle East (31 Jan 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: We are talking about breaches of international law, annexation, apartheid, execution and murder. The Minister has said he works with like-minded states across Europe. What action will these like-minded states take? I accept the European Union will not do anything to hold Israel accountable, but on that basis there is an onus on us to stand by the Palestinian people. There must be...
- Ceisteanna - Questions: Child Poverty (31 Jan 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: It goes without saying that many children are affected by the housing crisis and disability supports that are not available. Let us be clear. If we are talking about real and meaningful change in tackling child poverty, we need to look at the pathways available to many of us be they through education, apprenticeships and employment. A significant number of people are born without those...

- Ceisteanna - Questions: Cabinet Committees (31 Jan 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: The Government has spoken about community welfare or exceptional needs payments as a means of dealing with the cost-of-living crisis that many people are dealing with. We are all aware of many people who are waiting an extremely long time. I know of cases in Dundalk of people waiting eight, nine and ten weeks, or longer. In some cases, we know these people are applying for exceptional...
- Ceisteanna - Questions: Citizens' Assembly (31 Jan 2023)
Ruairí Ó Murchú: We need the citizens' assembly on drugs to happen as soon as possible. We are looking at absolute failure. When we talk about drug use, drug addiction, the services that relate to those problems, drug criminality and drug-debt intimidation, we speak about its impact across society, which is particularly bad in working-class areas in urban settings. We need to do something different. We...
