Thirty-Fifth Amendment of the Constitution (Right to a Home) Bill 2016: First Stage - An Bille um an gCúigiú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (An Ceart chun Teaghaise), 2016: An Chéad Chéim (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: Yes. The purpose of the Bill is to provide for the right of all citizens to adequate, secure and affordable housing, and to give effect to the decision of the Constitutional Convention that such a right be enshrined in the Constitution. Such a constitutional right to a home would oblige the State to make reasonable provision to vindicate such a right through its policies and decisions.

Order of Business (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: Tá trí cheist agam faoi chlár an Rialtais ar an Seanad, ar an nGarda Síochána agus ar an drugs payment scheme. Having listened to the Taoiseach waxing lyrically, I note the programme for Government in a wonderful understatement acknowledges that significant reform of the Seanad is long overdue, and states, "We will pursue the implementation of the Manning Report, as...

Order of Business (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: Is this the extent of the reform of the Seanad? On 12 occasions reports have been proposed on Seanad reform and not one has been implemented. We are proposing the establishment of a committee on Seanad reform to report within weeks. Will the Government's new Seanadóirí support this proposal? On the issue of An Garda Síochána, the programme for Government commits the...

Leaders' Questions (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: Tá mé beagnach críochnaithe anois, a Cheann Comhairle. It must be fully investigated to get to the bottom of allegations of wrongdoing and cosy cartels which have cost the citizens of this State millions of euro. Does the Taoiseach not believe it is time for the Minister for Finance to make a full statement on all of these matters to the Dáil?

Leaders' Questions (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: The Minister for Finance has not made a full statement to the Dáil. It is not just Sinn Féin which has these issues. The Taoiseach and the former Tánaiste, Deputy Joan Burton,...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: The Taoiseach gave a very enthusiastic response to my question when he stated he fully supported the right of the diaspora to votes in presidential elections. He had three years to do something about it, but this was not my question. My question was about citizens living outside the State, including citizens living in the other part of this island in the North. Given that the...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (31 May 2016)

Gerry Adams: I welcome the news that US Vice President Joe Biden will arrive here in July. He is very proud of his Irish roots, which he traces to Mayo and to the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth. He is also very supportive and very proud of the role Irish America has played in the ongoing peace process. It is also fitting that the Taoiseach attended a 1916 commemoration event in the US. The...
