Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I will engage with Deputy Stanton some day when I have more time and I would be happy to debate it. If the Deputies look up what I said on Tuesday and today, they will note I made many references to the Bill, which is excellent legislation. Let me refer to the representations made to us on the Bill by the Disability Federation of Ireland. Those of us who attended its various briefings, at...

Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I wish to share time with Deputy Callely. It is always a challenge speaking for a few minutes in a debate and then picking it up again a few days later. On Tuesday I said I have always had a good relationship with the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Deputy Brennan. I hope admitting that does not destroy his career.

Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: The Minister is doing very well as Deputy Hayes knows. While the Minister and I share a constituency boundary, it is not just that. I have considerable contact with him through my work as a local Deputy and through my work on the Joint Committee on Social and Family Affairs and as secretary of the Fianna Fáil group. Since he came to the Department of Social and Family Affairs I have...

Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: Even the Opposition admits the Minister is doing a good job. If we were surveyed all of us would say the Department of Social and Family Affairs continues to be the best Department in terms of disseminating information. I have absolute proof of this in the business I do. I am always sensitive about talking just about Tallaght. In the other contributions to this debate I have heard other...

Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: Everything I have said is about the Bill.

Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I have heard colleagues talk about every street in Cork, so the Deputy will need to bear with me. I do not mention Tallaght that often.

High Level of Suicide in Irish Society: Statements (26 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I welcome the opportunity of making a brief contribution on the report of the Joint Committee on Health and Children into the high level of suicide in Irish society. I am sensitive to the fact I am following the contribution of my colleague, Deputy Neville, whose work in this area is impressive. He has done tremendous work in this regard and I was proud to have been a member of the...

Health Services: Motion (Resumed). (25 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I welcome the opportunity to make a brief contribution to this very important debate. I had intended to spend my five minutes talking about a range of national issues and support my colleague Deputy Fiona O'Malley in respect of Loughlinstown. However, no debate on health, this week or any other week, could go ahead without some mention of Tallaght Hospital, of which I am very proud. I will...

Health Services: Motion (Resumed). (25 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: He was a very far-sighted Minister for Health. In 1998, I was involved with the board that opened the hospital. We were very clear that the National Children's Hospital would be an integral part of the Tallaght Hospital operation. We now need to know how to proceed. What will be the future of children's services in Tallaght Hospital? The bottom line for my community, with whom I have...

Anti-Social Behaviour. (24 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle and the Ceann Comhairle for facilitating us in this matter. The timing was critical because there has been much adverse publicity in recent days about the Tallaght region. It is very important that we make the point that this is not just about Tallaght. We are very sensitive about the image being created of Tallaght, but these problems need to be...

Citizens Information Bill 2006: Second Stage (24 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I will keep the thrust of what I want to say until tomorrow's debate when I wish to contribute again. I echo what other colleagues have said in complimenting the Minister, Deputy Brennan, and his staff for looking after Members' needs and keeping us fully informed. I am glad that so many prominent Members of the Opposition were here to hear my brief contribution. I particularly wish to...

Charlie O'Connor: I propose to share time with Deputies Callanan, Curran and Moloney.

Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2006: Second Stage (Resumed). (18 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I welcome the opportunity to contribute to this discussion. It is traditional on these occasions to compliment the Deputy who moves the Private Members' Bill and I do so tonight more sincerely than usual because Deputy Olivia Mitchell shares a constituency boundary with me and previously represented part of my constituency. I acknowledge her work on this Bill and the ongoing support she has...

Written Answers — Joint Policing Committees: Joint Policing Committees (17 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: Question 261: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will confirm that a police forum will be established for the Tallaght region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33394/06]

Crime Prevention: Motion (Resumed). (11 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I wish to share my time with Deputy Ardagh.

Crime Prevention: Motion (Resumed). (11 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: While I should not say this, I would be as happy to be in Lansdowne Road cheering on my neighbour, Robbie Keane, as he leads out the Irish team. My best wishes go to them. However, the House is concerned with a serious debate this evening. I notice that my colleagues, Deputies Catherine Murphy and Healy, are present. I compliment the Independent group for tabling this motion and providing...

Unemployment Levels. (11 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: Question 3: To ask the Taoiseach if he will confirm from the Central Statistics Office the latest available unemployment figures for Tallaght, Dublin 24. [30512/06]

Unemployment Levels. (11 Oct 2006)

Charlie O'Connor: I am delighted to have an opportunity to say a few words on this issue. My question is sandwiched between two questions from my Green Party friend, Deputy Sargent. I am sure someone will come up with a slogan about that. I am interested that the clár describes Tallaght as being in Dublin 4. I am not sure how the people of Tallaght will react to that.
