Terry Leyden: I second Senator Denis O'Donovan's amendment to the Order of Business. I want to place on record my welcome to the ambassador, Dominick Chilcott, and his cousin. He is fulfilling a wonderful ambassador role in Ireland on behalf of the United Kingdom. He is always available to Members of the Oireachtas. He is doing an excellent job and I wish him continued success. I am delighted that he...
- Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (8 Jul 2014)
Terry Leyden: Yes. It is outrageous, and it is about time some government said it will not allow that. If people put something on social media, they should have to prove what they are saying is correct or it should be removed. Ordinary citizens and professionals such as teachers and so on are finding this is becoming a fact of life. It is an issue Members of the Seanad should examine. I ask the Leader...

By coincidence, this statutory instrument came into force on 1 June 2014, days after the local...

- Seanad: Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Fund Bill 2014: Second Stage (2 Jul 2014)
Terry Leyden: Encouragement of the sale and consumption of alcohol does not contribute. All I am saying is that people have a chance and opportunity to reflect on Good Friday. It would provide substantial funding for the implementation of a range of measures to reduce the rate of suicide in Ireland. It is broadly based on the Senator's policy document, Actions Speak Louder Than Words, which was published last year. I compliment him on taking the initiative to try to reduce the...

Surely we could observe them by the closure of public houses. I oppose that Bill not as someone who is a shareholder in a pub but on a personal basis. Publicans may have different views, but I believe Good Friday and Christmas Day are two days...
