Special Report 113 of the Comptroller and Auditor General - Procurement of Vehicles by the Irish Coast Guard (11 Nov 2021) Cormac Devlin: I thank Mr. Doocey. Before I ask questions of Mr. Clonan, since I have limited time, I have questions about the search and rescue service. Forgive me if this question was asked in my absence. When reading the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, I was struck by the fact that this dates back to 2013 and the 24 NVIS goggles that were purchased. That is expensive equipment and I...

Special Report 113 of the Comptroller and Auditor General - Procurement of Vehicles by the Irish Coast Guard (11 Nov 2021) Cormac Devlin: On the regulatory requirement that Mr. Clonan mentioned, how come one party was already trained in the absence of that? Am I correct in stating that one base was trained up in 2018 or 2019? How come that training proceeded and the training for the others has not? Would Mr. Clonan accept that this has taken a very long time?

Special Report 113 of the Comptroller and Auditor General - Procurement of Vehicles by the Irish Coast Guard (11 Nov 2021) Cormac Devlin: I thank the Chairman for allowing me in a second time. I wish to focus in on the Coast Guard with Mr. Clonan. I note from the Comptroller and Auditor General's report that 18, I think, vehicles were purchased. There were issues with procurement but I have heard what the Secretary General has said in that regard on reform around procurement, which is welcome. An issue I raised last May, of...

Special Report 113 of the Comptroller and Auditor General - Procurement of Vehicles by the Irish Coast Guard (11 Nov 2021) Cormac Devlin: Mr. Clonan might send me a note on the use of the vehicles and maybe a breakdown of how frequent is "frequent" because I would like to know those exercises are being done being done biannually or whatever. They are really important.

- Committee on Public Petitions: Direct Provision Policy and Related Matters: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Nov 2021)
Cormac Devlin: I welcome the witnesses and thank them for their time and the statement. I have a few questions, and I might leave some of them to the second round depending on my own availability. When we last spoke with the Ombudsman, Mr. Peter Tyndall, about this, his office had dealt with a number of complaints and a number of issues had arisen particularly in light of the pandemic. I recognise the...

- Committee on Public Petitions: Direct Provision Policy and Related Matters: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Nov 2021)
Cormac Devlin: On the implementation of the White Paper and the new system, the Secretary General said it will be supported by a programme board. I understand it will be phased in between now and 2024. The Secretary General said it would include representatives of Departments, agencies, NGOs, a person who has transitioned through the direct provision system, which is very welcomed, and relevant experts....

He was a distinguished human rights campaigner, co-founder of the SDLP and a former member of this House from 1989 to 2002, serving as Minister of State with responsibility for children from 1994 to 1997. Prior to his election to...
- Ceisteanna - Questions: Cabinet Committees (10 Nov 2021)
Cormac Devlin: The NTA published its Draft Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2022-2042 yesterday and there has been much miscommunication about it. The plan clearly states the railway order applications will be made for the Metrolink and the DART+ west next year and the Finglas LUAS in 2023 or 2024. The draft strategy also envisages the roll-out of BusConnects between 2022 and 2024. All of...

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Insurance Industry (9 Nov 2021)
Cormac Devlin: That is welcome news. I welcome the proposed extension of the national claims information database. I note that last week, at an Oireachtas committee, Oliver Gilvarry, head of the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council secretariat made the point that enhancements to the NCID database would provide greater detail on claims which would help to drill down on the cost of the awards....
