- Seanad: Directly Elected Mayors: Statements (29 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: I thank the Minister of State. When is it proposed to sit again?
- Seanad: Address to Seanad Éireann by Mr. John Horan (29 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: The uachtarán, his family and the GAA family are heartily welcome here today. This is very historic. It is a great day and it is great to see the uachtarán here. I come from a different side of the GAA. The late Sean Young, who was my manager, played for Derry. He always said that I was more interested in where we were going after the match than in the match itself. I ended up...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (24 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: Recently, the issue of rural transport has been in the news, as well as drink driving and many other aspects. A lot of has been done with the rural transport initiative. The Minister of State at the Department of Health, Deputy Jim Daly, and Deputy Robert Troy have hit upon a unique idea of an Uber-style rural taxi service or, as the Minister of State called it, a "Ruxi". In Dublin, we...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Hospitals Building Programme (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: I know the Minister of State is familiar with the vital projects in counties Leitrim and Roscommon that I am raising this morning. One of the most comprehensive programmes of investment in public nursing home facilities in the history of the State was unveiled under the previous Fine Gael-led Government. As part of a €400 million investment programme, 33 existing nursing home...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Hospitals Building Programme (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: I thank the Minister of State. I am delighted that the Government is fully committed to upgrading nursing homes, especially St. Patrick's Hospital in Carrick-on-Shannon and the Sacred Heart Hospital in Roscommon. I would like to mention something I have noticed during my involvement with various developments, including the development of an endoscopy unit at Roscommon University Hospital....
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: Yesterday, I complimented all the staff and the people involved in the centenary of the Dáil on Monday. I am a firm believer that Ireland should have more association with the Commonwealth of Nations. That would help when 70% of the people born on the island of Ireland reside in commonwealth countries. What difficulty do we have in that regard? I was heartened to find in the booklet...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: At what time will that meeting take place?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: Is the meeting of 30 January also at 1.30 p.m.?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: When is the FAI coming before the committee?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Corporate Governance Framework of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Discussion (23 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: Mr. Doyle is most welcome. Corporate governance is something we have embraced only in recent years. I was delighted when the 2014 Civil Service renewal plan tried to introduce corporate governance in all areas. It shows professionalism in the Department, which I welcome. Corporate governance incorporates rules, practices and processes. It is a balancing act between the many stakeholders...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Jan 2019)
Frank Feighan: I join other Senators in absolutely condemning the wanton act of terrorism in Derry on Saturday night last. Thankfully, nobody was killed or injured but what happened shows that this is a dangerous time when it comes to dissident republicans. Everything must be done to ensure that they do not have a voice or threaten the Good Friday Agreement. Yesterday's centenary of the first meeting of...
- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Dec 2018)
Frank Feighan: -----and Senators Lawlor and Marshall were elected on a cross-party basis and this is positive. We work together in the Seanad in a positive manner and they have brought their own views to this House and there is much to be said for it. Roscommon has certainly been in the news in the last two weeks. I live in Castlerea at the weekends and two weeks ago there was an incident there. Last...
- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Dec 2018)
Frank Feighan: I also wish all my colleagues in the Oireachtas a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous new year as well as the hard working staff of the service who have done so much great work in the last year. I have been a Member of the Seanad since 2002 and it has certainly changed. It is not the same type of divisional Seanad. Some six or seven years ago, Senator Craughwell was the first person in the...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Road Projects Status (19 Dec 2018)
Frank Feighan: I thank the Minister for taking up my invitation to discuss these important road schemes along the N4. As the Minister knows, the N4 is a major carriageway to the north-west region. It is a national primary road running from Dublin to the north west and Sligo. It goes without saying that the N4 is a vital artery to this region. There are three major schemes currently planned along the...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Road Projects Status (19 Dec 2018)
Frank Feighan: There are a lot of projects that will contribute to this road, but we continue to look enviously at the motorways from Galway, Limerick, Cork, Waterford and Belfast to Dublin. The area certainly needs better links with the capital city. I am delighted that certain projects are earmarked in the 2040 plan and I thank the Minister for taking the time to come to the House to answer my questions.

- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Dec 2018)
Frank Feighan: I also extend my condolences to the people of France and Strasbourg. It was an awful shooting especially at Christmas time. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our French colleagues. As for the vote of confidence at Westminster today, the Prime Minister, Theresa May, has the respect of the Irish people and the British people. She has been formidable. I hope that cool heads will prevail in...
- Seanad: Order of Business (11 Dec 2018)
Frank Feighan: I join my colleague, Senator O'Mahony, in congratulating Mullinalaghta GAA club. Its victory brought great joy and pride to every town, village and rural area around the country, and indeed to every city as well. It showed what can be done. I am talking about the spirit of Gaelic football, the club and the community and what that means. I come from a neighbouring county and I was in...
