- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: Yes, but that would have been done on the back of legal advice because with any situation where there are contracts involved, one obviously checks them against the contracts.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: The fact that legal advice was not sought is astonishing. That is the first thing anybody would do in terms of changing somebody's contract or looking at somebody's contractual obligations. It is absolutely astonishing. I have a question about the 4,000 people who had the contractual right to a tracker. Why are they different? Why are they not getting full redress and compensation?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: The fact that an amount is taken and there is no compensation or redress for them is grossly unfair.

Rose Conway Walsh: Sorry?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: No, but there was a contractual obligation, as Mr. Byrne said himself when he described them. Have we been given a list of the 30 different customer groupings that AIB examined in the first instance to see whether they were entitled to compensation or redress?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: Has AIB received a letter from the Central Bank about the responsibility for senior management of the banks to report to the Garda if it sees a violation of the regulatory code?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: Is Mr. Byrne concerned about the significant legal obligations? Does he think any of the banks are concerned about the significant legal obligations about which the Central Bank spoke the last day regarding potential breaches?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: How can people going into an AIB branch today be sure they are getting the right product for them? Will Mr. Byrne explain to us how the culture within the banks has changed so that this will never happen again?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: Mr. Byrne has said that 500 people are currently working on tracker mortgages. Were they recruited from outside of the bank? Did those people already work for the bank but were assigned to this new role? What will happen to them when this tracker issue is sorted out?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: How much has been invested in the IT system in the past couple of years?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: Is that enough investment to protect people from this happening again? It is despicable that even though decisions were made to take money off people, the systems have been blamed.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Allied Irish Banks (23 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: Is Mr. Byrne saying that something like this can never happen again?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Central Bank of Ireland (18 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I thank Professor Lane for his presentation. I want to acknowledge the change in pace and attitude towards the tracker mortgage scandal in recent months. While we still have some way to go, I want to acknowledge what has been done to date. If I go into a bank this afternoon to seek a mortgage, how do I know that I am being offered the product that is right for me or the best possible...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Central Bank of Ireland (18 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I thank Professor Lane for that information but if the Central Bank found out today that there was a product available that suited a large number of people and best met their needs but that not all of the banks were offering it, what would the approach be and what sanctions would be applied? What would happen if that was the case across the board?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Tracker Mortgages: Central Bank of Ireland (18 Jan 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I am referring to those people who went into a bank to get a mortgage at the time that tracker mortgages were available but were not told about the tracker mortgage rate or were not offered such a mortgage. Is there any case for those people who were not on a fixed rate but were requesting a new mortgage?
