- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Planning Issues (3 Mar 2022)
Pádraig O'Sullivan: I live only 15 minutes away from the areas Deputy O'Connor spoke about, so the Minister of State is more than welcome to call to me as well when he comes to east Cork. My question relates to the role of the OPR. The Minister will be familiar with the communication sent by its chief executive to local authorities in the past few weeks on the conduct of their development plans. Will he...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Planning Issues (3 Mar 2022)
Pádraig O'Sullivan: The reason I ask this question is that Cork County Council is one of the many local authorities that have received quite substantial communications from the OPR in recent weeks. The report that was issued by the OPR in the case of Cork County...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Planning Issues (3 Mar 2022)
Pádraig O'Sullivan: I note what the Minister of State said in regard to compliance with some of the recommendations, particularly in the case of the flood maps. There is a continuation of the problem in Cork in regard to the joint retail strategy between city and county. Clearly, the two local authorities are at odds in this regard. Cork County Council was successful in its case for continuing with the...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Future Funding of Higher Education: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2022)

What are our guests' views on the idea of student loans? There is an argument for an enhanced SUSI grant, maintaining some type of current funding model or something similar to what exists at the moment. Will they tease out those two issues?

Pádraig O'Sullivan: Student accommodation is one of the main issues of the day. We have our own problems in Cork, with which both Deputy Ó Laoghaire and I are familiar. Mr. Brownlee stated, “There also still exists major untapped potential in developing further apprenticeship programmes across FET.” Will he expand on that? Where are the trends likely to lead us in the future?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Future Funding of Higher Education: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2022)
Pádraig O'Sullivan: I have one last comment. The reason I asked that question is that we went on a trip to the Munster Technological University, MTU, in recent months and one of the issues cited was that, physically, it did not have the space to do a lot of the training that was envisaged. It was something that was flagged with us that day as a concern.
