- Banking Sector Crisis: Motions (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome this debate and wish to take up a number of points with the Minister. He has extended the period covered by the commission of inquiry from 1 January 2003 to 28 September 2008 in respect of all elements bar the supervisory role of the Central Bank and the Financial Regulator. The Minister has extended the period in respect of the institutions to 15 January 2009, when Anglo Irish...
- Banking Sector Crisis: Motions (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: They should have, but why did they not?
- Banking Sector Crisis: Motions (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: In which case, why are the figures in the draft business plan that was laid before the House during our discussion on the NAMA legislation so far off those in the revised business plan? We need more detail on the plan.
- Banking Sector Crisis: Motions (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I thank the Minister. Before our recess, the House should have an in-depth discussion on the extension of the Government guarantee scheme to December.
- Banking Sector Crisis: Motions (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I accept that, but my point is critical in the context of Anglo Irish Bank. Subordinated debt will not be guaranteed under the new loan guarantee fund, LGF, scheme. When I raised the matter of Anglo Irish Bank's senior debt during Priority Questions more than one week ago and asked whether it would form part of the new guarantee, the Minister assured me he would examine it. Between Anglo...
- Banking Sector Crisis: Motions (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: When will that happen?
- Order of Business (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: On a related matter, the Minister of State with responsibility for disability, Deputy Moloney, came before the House last night. While Members obviously can be updated individually, if possible, in the interests of complete clarity, the Minister of State, Deputy Moloney, should come before the House at some point this evening to make a brief statement to the effect that the respite services...
- Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, to call on the Minister for Heath and Children - who is in the House - and on the Taoiseach to make an announcement before the House here today that the respite services for intellectually disabled adults at Clonisle, Caherdavin, Limerick, run by the Brothers of Charity, Bawnmore,...
- Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: This is so important. What we want is for the Minister for Health and Children or the Minister with responsibility for disability to come before the House to say this service will be reopened. This is about real people's lives. Yesterday, the Taoiseach was here talking about 130 people as if they did not exist.
- Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: Are we going to get a commitment today to have this respite service reopened. This is too important an issue to be passed over.
- Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (8 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: The Government needs to take this issue seriously. We will not leave today until we have a response.
- Services for People with Disabilities (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I thank Deputy John Moloney, the Minister of State responsible for disability, for attending the House. This is an extremely important issue for us all, particularly in so far as it affects the respite services of the Brothers of Charity in Clonile House, Old Cratloe Road, Limerick. The Brothers of Charity have provided an invaluable service to individuals and their parents. There are 63...
- Economic Issues: Motion (Resumed) (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I support this timely motion. I wish to focus on the issue of the credibility of Government policy. In its counter motion, the Government states it has stabilised the public finances and regained credibility. When the European financial stability package was introduced here, the cost of our borrowing dropped to 4.7%, but it has drifted steadily upwards since and is now 5.29% for ten year...
- Departmental Staff (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: Question 31: To ask the Minister for Defence the number of civil servants in his Department at assistant principal officer or higher grades who were appointed to those positions from private sector; and if he will make a statement on matter. [29937/10]
- Order of Business (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: I want to ask the Taoiseach about the health information Bill and when he expects it to be published. It is item No. 27 on the B list. By way of information, the Taoiseach spoke earlier about the respite services. These services in Limerick have been closed for the past three weeks. That involves 63 families and individuals, many of whom are travelling to Dublin today for the march. Many...
- Order of Business (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: This has been ongoing for a number of weeks. On a point of information for the Taoiseach, these respite services are already closed, not about to be closed, because of lack of funding.
- Order of Business (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: It is current revenue we are talking about, not capital.
- Order of Business (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: This is about staff, not about capital funding.
- Services for People with Disabilities (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: Could the Minister of State answer a question?
- Services for People with Disabilities (7 Jul 2010)
Kieran O'Donnell: The second last paragraph of the written response provided by the Minister of State states: The brothers have indicated that the respite service can be largely restored for â¬150,000 in the current year. The Brothers of Charity today indicated that they would work with the HSE to ensure this happens. When will this happen?
