Frank Feighan: I thank Mr. Horan and the review group for their report. I thank Sport Ireland, which has been in a difficult situation for the past few years. It has dealt with this quite well, so far so good. It is a situation it does not like to find itself in. We are very fortunate to have such a competent organisation to deal with a situation none of us wants to deal with. The FAI has form here,...

Frank Feighan: I also wish to be associated with the messages of condolence to the Whelan family. I met Noel Whelan on numerous occasions. He certainly had his finger on the political pulse. He was very astute and was a great commentator. At election time, we really looked forward to his interpretation of what exactly was going to happen. We give our sympathies to his family and also to the family of...

Frank Feighan: I rise to congratulate and thank my good friend, Conor McGinn, a Labour Party MP in Westminster. Mr. McGinn secured an amendment to ensure that same-sex marriage would be introduced in Northern Ireland unless power sharing is restored in October. He is a great friend of Ireland. He is chair of the all–party parliamentary group on the Irish in Britain and he is involved in the...

Frank Feighan: I listened with interest to my colleague, Senator Ó Donnghaile, speak about the work of the Reverend Harold Good. I took great interest in what James Nesbitt said about a union of Ireland, namely, that he would embrace it as long as lives of the people North and South, and between the two islands, improved. We are moving into a different space now in that we are privileged to talk...

Frank Feighan: We have the marching season during which bonfires are lit. We have the Irish flag and effigies of politicians being burned. We need to show respect for anthems and flags. Similarly, at the end of March, we see Union Jacks and poppy flags being burned. We have to ensure we provide a space for anybody - church, civil or political leaders - who is prepared to stand up and apologise for...

Frank Feighan: I thank Members for their contributions. Senator Ardagh referred to the sale of mortgages by Ulster Bank. The Central Bank of Ireland cannot stop the sale of this loan book to various vulture funds. We need to put the consumer first. For years we have had difficulties in the financial sector. We are looking at the issues of the living wage, increasing salaries and rent increases, a...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (4 Jul 2019)
Frank Feighan: Perhaps we can bring in the Minister, and, as a group, discuss all of these issues with the Minister and clarify many of them. Senator Ó Ríordáin spoke about Scotland and tough justice. I remember discussing the drugs issue many years ago, involving cannabis, crack cocaine and other drugs. The Senator called on the Minister of State, Deputy Catherine Byrne, to come before...
