Christopher O'Sullivan: My contribution will be very brief. I thank the witnesses for coming in and informing us of the challenges they face. I think they have widespread support in the committee. I am sorry Deputy Mattie McGrath has left because I read somewhere during the week that he was a champion dancer. I would love to see footage of that.
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Impact of Covid-19 on Irish Dance Sector: Discussion (25 Nov 2020)
Christopher O'Sullivan: It was before the days of iPhones, I imagine, so I bet the footage is locked away somewhere. Getting to the point, I have attended a lot of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí events in the past, 2019 in particular. Some of them were my first ever events, and I was just blown away by these multitalented, incredible prodigies who were able to switch from playing a harp to doing an amazing...

Christopher O'Sullivan: Every member has echoed the comments made on the importance of the arts and the challenges they face during this pandemic and the resilience they have shown. I...

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Funding (17 Nov 2020)
Christopher O'Sullivan: My question relates to the Irish Red Cross and its funding. In fairness to the Minister and the Department, they fund the Irish Red Cross to the tune of almost €1 million per annum. However, the local branches of the Irish Red Cross depend heavily on fees they get from attending events, concerts, race meetings and so forth. An extra cash injection is needed to keep these branches...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Funding (17 Nov 2020)
Christopher O'Sullivan: The Minister mentioned the stability fund and the fact the Irish Red Cross received €200,000 from it, but, unfortunately, it is not enough to keep the branches afloat. The Minister hit the nail on the head in terms of the challenges faced by the branches. The best I can do is offer him the example of the Clonakilty branch of the Irish Red Cross. It is an incredible branch and covers...
