It is interesting that this...

Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014: Report Stage (Resumed) (19 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: The Minister of State has admitted, and her officials have said, that they are coming off the local authority list because they are deemed to have had their housing needs met. There is nothing of equivalent status in the Bill to state that they will go on some other list and we know from experience, as was alluded to by Deputy O'Brien earlier during Leaders' Questions, that there is a wide...

Order of Business (19 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: The Minister has promised for some time a geothermal energy development Bill to regulate and license that sector. What progress has been made and when will we see the Bill? I also wish to raise the Istanbul Convention on violence against women. Has the Government given this convention consideration or will it do so in the near future? Will the Government sign this convention?

Other Questions: Defence Forces Properties (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: The overholders can take very little comfort from what the Minister of State has said, irrespective of who may have been brought to him by Deputy Heydon. I have given the Minister of State the example of someone who is not a member of the public who is not outside the Defence Forces; I have given him the example of a serving member of the Defence Forces, who has served this country with...

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: 9. To ask the Minister for Defence the action his Department is taking to address the plight of overholders in military residences in the Curragh; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25805/14]

Other Questions: Defence Forces Properties (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: This question returns to the issue raised earlier by Deputy Clare Daly on the plight of Army overholders and the responsibility of the Department of Defence as a landlord. This is an issue that has gone for many years. It probably was an issue when you were in the Department yourself, a Cheann Comhairle. While the response to Minister Daly-----

Other Questions: Defence Forces Properties (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: -----I mean Deputy Clare Daly. While the response on this matter earlier was not positive, we would like to hear what the Minister has to say on the matter again.

Other Questions: Defence Forces Properties (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: The former Minister for Defence was not noted for his softly-softly approach to issues. Accordingly, I am disappointed the Minister of State seems to be adopting a more hard-line approach and rejecting some of the progress achieved by people such as Deputy Clare Daly in raising this matter. In the course of the past month, I was struck by the plight of a family of a serving member of the...

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: Can the Minister confirm the number of Navy vessels that are tied up as a result of this difficulty? Will he further confirm that consultants were engaged previously by the Naval Service to assess the fleet and that the consultancy found that asbestos was not a problem aboard these vessels? The Minister tells us there has been screening of those who potentially may have been exposed to the...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Naval Service Vessels (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: I welcome the suggestion that there can be ongoing screening if medically recommended. The Minister has not clarified the position on the LE Eithne. Is it tied up as a result of concerns about asbestos in her forward pump room? Also, can the Minister tell us if it is the case that consultants in the area of asbestos were brought in by the Minister's Department and the Naval Service, that...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Air Accident Investigations (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: I thank the Minister of State for his reply and I acknowledge his deep personal interest in this matter. He will be aware that the Jevens family has grave concerns about a multiplicity of matters surrounding the court of inquiry. They understand it was the third of three inquiries held into the accident but in numerous correspondences, they raised serious issues relating to what they see,...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Air Accident Investigations (18 Jun 2014)

Seán Ó Fearghaíl: Notwithstanding what the Minister of State has said, will he confirm that the Secretary General and the Chief of Staff stated to the family that an addendum would be attached to the report? Will he also confirm when the report will issue with the agreed addendum? This will satisfy the family to some extent in so far as it will put on the public record their concerns about the reputation of...
