Seanad: State Airports (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: After the budget we will be cycling everywhere. The Minister of State's Government has already told us that Cork Airport will have no debt, but it has been laden with a debt. We need action and answers from the Minister of State tonight. It may not come under his direct area of responsibility, but I hope he will have positive news for the workers of Cork Airport and the people of Cork tonight.

Seanad: State Airports (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: The Minister of State's reply is disappointing. In saying that it is hoped a person will be appointed shortly, is he talking of weeks or months? In his reply, he is factually incorrect. A clear commitment was given by his predecessors to the effect that there would be no debt on Cork Airport, and that the Government would honour that, yet it has not.

Jerry Buttimer: The promise was that it would be debt-free.

Seanad: Budget Statement 2009: Statements (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: I wish to share time with Senator Pearse Doherty. Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. Tá ár dtír i mbaol dul siar go dtí dorchadas na n-ochtóidí. Is é pobal na tíre a bheidh ag fulaingt go mór de bharr na cáinfhaisnéise inné. Is iad na seandaoine a chaill a gcártaí leighis, na feirmeoirí nach mbeidh in ann a mhuintir a mhealladh chun fanacht ar an bhfeirm, na páistí...

Seanad: Budget Statement 2009: Statements (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: Gabh mo leithscéal. It is an example. The Government has taxed the old, the poor and the disabled and it has decimated rural Ireland. Agriculture has been killed off and in return we have silence from the Members on the Government side. The 1% income levy has had the great affect of bringing people on low pay into the tax net. The Minister of State referred to emancipation, which means...

Seanad: Budget Statement 2009: Statements (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: The Senator's party is extinct so she cannot talk. If this is what Fianna Fáil calls social justice, I look forward to the next three years when the people will witness what the party stands for, which is looking after the wealthy few at the expense of the many.

Seanad: Unemployment Levels: Statements (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: Why does Cork have twice the national average rate of unemployment? Is it because Government has not provided the necessary infrastructure to entice business to Cork or because the Government has not provided funding for the eastern gateway bridge to regenerate the Cork docklands? Is it the fact that Cork Airport is saddled with debt and the Government has failed to appoint a chairman to...

Seanad: Unemployment Levels: Statements (15 Oct 2008)

Jerry Buttimer: Ar an gcéad dul síos, cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. Tá an dífhostaíocht ag méadú. Cad atá á dhéanamh ag baill an Rialtais? Is dóigh liom nach bhfuil faic á dhéanamh acu. Níl aithne acu ar chathair Chorcaí. Tá méadú mór ar an dífhostaíocht sa chathair sin. If we take the starting point that the Minister of State and his colleagues have slaughtered the Celtic...
