Martin Conway: I thought the Leas-Chathaoirlach had tapped the bell.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (30 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: Like everybody else, I welcome yesterday's announcements, especially on promoting and developing the concept of outside dining. However, I am slightly concerned about people with disabilities, specifically blind people, wheelchair users, elderly people and people with small children who might be pushing prams. I very much encourage outside dining but I would like to see protocols put in...
- Seanad: Criminal Procedure Bill 2021: Committee Stage (26 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I, too, welcome the fact that Government Senators are tabling amendments more frequently than they would have done previously. I commend my colleague, Senator Ward, on tabling the amendments, going to the trouble of analysing the legislation and giving his views, which will better the legislation. By debating these matters we are doing what we are constitutionally supposed to do, which is...
- Seanad: Post Office Network: Motion (26 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I will share time with Senator Lombard.
- Seanad: Post Office Network: Motion (26 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I commend my colleague, Senator Dooley, on tabling this very important motion. It is good to debate the future of An Post in the Seanad. An Post is intrinsically linked with practically every family in this country and that special relationship is amplified by the outstanding service of the postwomen and postmen in this country over many decades, particularly, as previous speakers noted,...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Vaccination Programme (23 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Troy, to the House. As this is my first time addressing him formally since his appointment, I formally congratulate him and commend him on the work he has done so far.I have tabled this matter because I am concerned about the roll-out of the human papillomavirus, HPV, vaccine. Those concerns have been shared by the family of Laura Brennan. Members...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Vaccination Programme (23 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I thank the Minister of State for the update and I acknowledge the progress that has been made but I seek further clarity on a meaningful catch-up programme to get the figures up to what they should be, bearing in mind that we are in a pandemic, and on the role pharmacists throughout the country can play in delivering the HPV vaccine to young girls and boys aged 12 and 13. Where people have...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Covid-19 Vaccination Roll-out: Update (20 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I thank Dr. Henry, Professor Butler and their teams for the amazing work they have been doing on behalf of our country over the past 12 months. Of the 105,000 in cohort 1, how many now have been fully vaccinated with the first and second jab?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Covid-19 Vaccination Roll-out: Update (20 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: Of the 482,387 people in cohort 3, how many have received their first jab?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Covid-19 Vaccination Roll-out: Update (20 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: This still involves 25,000 people in the over-70s group who have not received their first jab yet. Is there any regional breakdown of this? I am getting information that in some urban areas, such as Kildare, people have not even got appointments yet. Is there a situation where the over-70s in large populated towns are still waiting, whereas in rural areas they have received their first jab?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Covid-19 Vaccination Roll-out: Update (20 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: Is there a dedicated telephone line for the over-70s? I know they are told to go to their GPs but there are always exceptions in these situations. Is there a phone line run by the HSE which people can ring in order to get information if they are concerned that they are not getting their appointment? If there is not, will one be set up? There should be in my view.

Martin Conway: Has that been exhausted?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Covid-19 Vaccination Roll-out: Update (20 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: There could be a situation where somebody between 60 and 69 would be in a position to respond at short notice to a phone call to get a vaccination. Is it correct that they might not be able to and could end up waiting several weeks, even though the structure is age-based and the younger one is, the less likely one will suffer the effects of Covid?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Covid-19 Vaccination Roll-out: Update (20 Apr 2021)

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (19 Apr 2021)
Martin Conway: I agree with the Minister of State, Senator Hackett, on the proposal of a public bank. It has worked very well in Germany, which is a European colleague country of ours, and should be looked at. I am speaking today because coming from County Clare, which is heavily dependent on tourism, I am concerned that we are not necessarily properly prepared. A lot of work can be done in advance of...
