To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he has engaged with his Cabinet colleagues and UK counterparts to ensure that returning emigrants who hold UK licences will continue to be able to swap their licences for an Irish driver licence even in the event of a no-deal Brexit. Marc MacSharry: There is a unique situation there because the port is load on-load off, lo-lo, rather than roll on-roll off, ro-ro.

Marc MacSharry: I was a beef exporter in the past and we loaded boats there for Egypt in the day. A no-deal Brexit would be good for the port in the sense that it is looking at direct exports to mainland Europe and further afield rather than the landbridge route.

Marc MacSharry: I did not get into the type of detail in the master plan that I would have liked. With regard to the capital expenditure required to grow the facility and build towards its potential, is this planned to be self-sourcing in terms of revenue building and leveraging against borrowings or is the port dependent on the Department, Transport Infrastructure Ireland or others to divvy up the investment?

Marc MacSharry: Are a lot of people in the world hiding behind the Boeing MAX jet issue? Every airline seems to be mentioning the Boeing MAX jet.

Marc MacSharry: I did not think Ms Hynes was hiding behind it. It seems to be the back story for every airline in every country in the world that is down on tourism. It is all about Boeing MAX. We had aeroplanes before that and ferries and transportation. It seems to be a good cover story. I am not saying it is for Shannon Group.
