Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Women's Shelters and Domestic Abuse Refuges: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)

Réada Cronin: I thank the witnesses for their presentations. I listened intently. Unfortunately, I am not a member of the committee so I did not receive the opening addresses but I listened to their presentations, for which I thank them. I am a Sinn Féin Deputy in north Kildare. My comrade in south Kildare wanted to join the meeting as well but, unfortunately, she had another meeting to attend....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Reduction of Carbon Emissions of 51% by 2030: Discussion (Resumed) (2 Nov 2021)

Réada Cronin: I am on the premises of Leinster House. It has been a really encouraging session. They are not always as encouraging. Sometimes we feel as though we are standing in front of the sea, telling it to stop. It has been encouraging to hear our guests' wisdom, the meitheal and the humility in regard to the planet, regarding the earth as a provider and producer that has to keep going. If the...

Réada Cronin: I would like to say I love Irish apples. I did not have a question for Mr. Traas. My last question was for Dr. Moran.

Child and Family Agency (Amendment) Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: I wish to reinforce what my comrade, Teachta Ó Laoghaire, talked about yesterday when we were discussing this Bill and the importance of the home liaison programme and the school completion programme. The home school liaison officers often save futures and sometimes even save lives. They can be the lifeline not just for a child but for whole families and the younger siblings coming up...

Réada Cronin: It has changed from yesterday. Okay. I apologise.

Covid-19: Reframing the Challenge, Continuing our Recovery and Reconnecting: Statements (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: It would be ridiculous to stand up here and not cite the growing number of new cases and hospital and ICU admissions. Reframing the challenge of Covid-19 is difficult in the context of our current figures. Our children are of particular concern in the context of Covid itself, long Covid and the wider impacts on their physical, mental and emotional health. It is hard to believe that while...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: I thank Dr. Brennan for her presentation. I despair at the thought of what is ahead of us. Dr. Brennan spoke about the financial commitments made by Scotland and the Netherlands. I accept that has to be the case and that our commitment to the circular economy cannot be piecemeal. Does Dr. Brennan believe we are at the races at the moment? I am worried that so much financial assistance...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: Certainly. It dropped on this end as well. I am getting a lot of feedback. Can the Chairman hear me now?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: Despite the de-risking moves, we are still in uncharted waters and this legislation could create many unknown possibilities and challenges for industry. Given our current economic model, I worry about the degree to which this legislation will work and whether companies will look for a great deal of financial commitments to comply with it. How viable is that? Has there been any kind of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: Citizen engagement.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: The answer was interesting and I agree with the points. There is the idea we need to get a phone every 18 months and parts have become disposable because we are such a consumerist society. It seems everything must be disposed of to get a new version. I thank Dr. Brennan for her answer.

Written Answers — Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Recycling Policy (21 Oct 2021)

Réada Cronin: 158. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the purpose for which the cumulative contents of brown bins is used; if the contents of brown bins could be processed and used to assist growers such as mushroom producers who may be reliant on imported peat; if the contents of brown bins are tested for the forever chemicals and PFAS; and if so, the levels at which...
