Catherine Noone: In fairness, I have to defend Dr. McCarthy, although he is well able to defend himself. He was making a light-hearted comment in difficult circumstances. There are many people who would say that the day on which one cannot make a light-hearted comment in very difficult circumstances is the one on which one is really finished.
