- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (5 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: I raise the shortage of hormone replacement therapy, HRT, products in the State. Several factors are at work here, including demand, supply and price. Some women are finding it difficult to source some HRT products in the State. The British Government has prioritised this issue in respect of the demand, supply and price. What is the State doing about the situation many women here find...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: I thank our guests for coming in today. It is probably safe to say there has been a lot of confusion and ambiguity about Dr. Holohan's position with regard to this secondment. It is quite unfortunate for everybody involved that this has happened. My first question is for Mr. Watt. Obviously, the position was tailor-made for Dr. Holohan given his public service, particularly in the past...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: Who came up with that original decision?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: Most people in the public would not have begrudged Dr. Holohan's secondment to further public health and so forth, but the way it was done with the protocol and the criteria was quite shoddy. Is it normal practice when public servants go into secondment arrangements that their salary generally stays the same? Is that general practice?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: The moneys involved are quite substantial. How do we come to the figure of €20 million that has been bandied around? I have not heard anyone explain that.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: It was an open-ended secondment. In theory Dr. Holohan could have been there for ten or 15 years if he wanted it, or even longer. Is that correct?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: Then there would be other personnel in relation the funding.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: Okay. Dr. Holohan has been in the public eye for the past two and a half years around the pandemic. The vast majority of people will have paid attention to what Dr. Holohan has done and there is a lot of gratitude towards him for his role in the pandemic, and towards others. Have recent weeks left a bad taste in Dr. Holohan's mouth after his public service over the past two years and much...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: Will Dr. Holohan step down as CMO in July? Is that his intention?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: I think Dr. Holohan would probably admit that if things had been done properly in relation to protocol, he would have gone on that secondment, had things worked out.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Appointment of Chief Medical Officer to a Role at a Higher Education Institution: Discussion (4 May 2022)
Gino Kenny: Thanks.
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Medical Aids and Appliances (28 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: 282. To ask the Minister for Health if he will remove the current age restriction for the Freestyle Libre device with immediate effect following a survey by an organisation (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21618/22]
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Medical Aids and Appliances (28 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: 283. To ask the Minister for Health if he will investigate the current impasse that seems to be preventing the undertaking of a health technology assessment for the Freestyle Libre device or offer a different process to enable same to take place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21619/22]
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Animal Welfare (26 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: I speak as a board member of the club. The board and the club have exhausted every single known funding avenue to the point where we are at this juncture. If we do not get this small amount of funding, the club will have no alternative, unfortunately, but to close its doors in July. As I said, that would be an absolute travesty in respect of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Animal Welfare (26 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: I have been a board member of Clondalkin Equine Club for the past five years. I was one of the co-founders of the club ten years ago. The concept was somewhat unique in a context where there was an enormous number of problems relating to equine welfare in the Clondalkin area. Horse owners got together more than ten years ago to appeal to the council and the authorities to prevent a type of...
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: One in 12 children is now on some form of hospital waiting list. More than 100,000 children are on some form of National Treatment Purchase Fund list. One in three children has been waiting longer than a year for treatment or assessment by a hospital consultant. Over the Easter period, the Irish Hospital Consultants Association issued a press release on these figures. It states children...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (7 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: I raise an issue today with the Tánaiste and perhaps the Minister of State, Deputy Rabbitte, who is present, may be in a better position to answer this question. It relates to the progressing disability services for children and young people. A number of families in my constituency and outside it have raised the lack of services with me. These families have children with Down’s...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Health Service Executive (6 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: 214. To ask the Minister for Health the plans of the HSE for the building on Main Street, Rathcoole, County Dublin that currently hold the Four Districts Day Centre and the site that it sits on; if the attention of the HSE has been drawn to the Specific Local Objective that is attached to the site in the South Dublin County Council County Development Plan and the way in which it intends to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Oversight of Sláintecare: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: The question I want to ask today is on the progress made on Sláintecare and where we are going with the concept of Sláintecare. The vast majority of people in this country want to see a different health system, one that is not inherently unequal as regards public healthcare. What people want is less bureaucracy, more delivery and radical reform. They want public healthcare at...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Oversight of Sláintecare: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Apr 2022)
Gino Kenny: Does Mr. Watt think Sláintecare is on target in relation to the progress envisaged?
