- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (15 May 2013)
Richard Boyd Barrett: We need to ask people with more relevant expertise for their opinions. This concerns procedures for making complaints or taking actions against senior officers in the military by lower ranking officers. The petitioner is claiming that there is no mechanism for doing so, but I suspect that none of us knows. I suggest that we contact the Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (15 May 2013)
Richard Boyd Barrett: This is an important petition - not just for the petitioner, but in light of the wider implications for many people. A series of firms have been liquidated and employees have been left high and dry - at least, they would see it that way - as regards whether they can have proper recourse. Our deliberations could feed into suggestions for the legislation. I agree that we should hear from the...

Richard Boyd Barrett: The workers are just as concerned as the Minister of State and everyone else about their jobs and the viability of the company. However, they are not in a position to take a hit of in the region of €3,000 each per year. - Report on Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration: Statements (14 May 2013)
Richard Boyd Barrett: There would be no jobs under the current regime as Providence told us, in the case of Dublin Bay, that it was going to fly staff in from Scotland to Dublin Airport and put them on a helicopter from Dublin Airport to bring them out to the oil rig. They would not touch down on Irish soil. There would be no jobs, no community gain and no spin-off whatsoever.
- Report on Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration: Statements (14 May 2013)
Richard Boyd Barrett: That is stated in the Providence report. If there is any journalist watching, I challenge him or her to go and read Providence's submission on its application to drill for gas and oil off Dublin Bay. That is the reality, as much as the Minister wants to deny it. They are under no obligation whatsoever. There is no regime currently over community gain or any arrest of it. Deputy Pringle...
