Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Establishment of Uisce Éireann: Discussion with Bord Gáis Networks (6 Nov 2012)

Tony McLoughlin: I have two more questions. The gentlemen spoke about employing experts. When I hear people talk about employing experts I get very concerned because I have seen what the experts in this country have done in recent years. The company is going to employ ten panels of experts in various fields over a three-year period. This concerns me because I know where the experts are at present - in the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Establishment of Uisce Éireann: Discussion with Bord Gáis Networks (6 Nov 2012)

Tony McLoughlin: We see what is happening at the moment in other semi-State bodies. It is not effective and it is not working. People do not know who they are dealing with. The Chairman's suggestion of having regional call centres would be far more effective. That is a route the company should consider.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Establishment of Uisce Éireann: Discussion with Bord Gáis Networks (6 Nov 2012)

Tony McLoughlin: I welcome the delegation. I have a number of questions, some of which have already been answered. Water scheme directors and secretaries are concerned about the future of the schemes when they come under the remit of Irish Water. Can the delegation outline the future envisaged for these schemes in rural areas? I come from the Sligo-North Leitrim constituency, which has quite a number of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Comprehensive Action Programme for the Reform of Local Government: Discussion (23 Oct 2012)

Tony McLoughlin: The witnesses are welcome. I have a couple of questions concerning the opening statement. It was said that significant annual savings would be achieved through efficiency measures and workforce planning in local authorities. Can Mr. Dowling expand on this? Members will be aware that there is provision for a targeted redundancy package within local authorities, so how will this work? Will...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Interim Report on National Climate Change Policy: Discussion with NESC (23 Oct 2012)

Could the officials be more specific in that regard? Could they identify the areas that are covered in the document? Mr. Cahill referred to the legally binding emissions reduction target that will have to be met by 2020. Could he be more specific...
