Mary Moran: It is not a contest. I would ask that Senator Byrne withdraw the personal remarks made against me immediately.

Seanad: Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (19 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: We are here for a debate, not to make personal comments about people and I would ask that those comments be withdrawn immediately.

Seanad: Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (19 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: Sinn Féin and fairy tale economics.

Mary Moran: We were supported by the Minister on that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Áras Attracta: HSE (16 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: Mr. O'Brien mentioned that there are thousands fewer staff in the HSE. What we saw in Áras Attracta was not a question of resources or staffing. There were plenty of staff there. Dr. Crowley mentioned training hours. We noted that there were more than 100 additional hours since the first HIQA report into Áras Attracta, yet we saw what we got. Irrespective of whether an...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Áras Attracta: HSE (16 Dec 2014)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Áras Attracta: HSE (16 Dec 2014)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Áras Attracta: HSE (16 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: Okay.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Áras Attracta: HSE (16 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: I concur with Deputy Regina Doherty. I am not convinced and nothing I have heard here tonight has relieved my fear. I am a mother of a child who uses a respite unit and I am appalled, sickened and shocked by what went on in Áras Attracta and nothing that I have heard has eased my fears. I have nothing against the unit where my son attends. I have noted there will be a Garda inquiry,...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Role and Functions: All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (11 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: My question is similar. It is specifically about my area of Dundalk and the work with the North Louth Hospice, which provides an excellent service. There is also a service in Newry, which I have visited on many occasions. It, too, provides outstanding care. However, what is the situation for children in that area?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Role and Functions: All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (11 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: It was similar to Deputy Conlan's. I asked specifically about my own area between Dundalk and Newry, which are the two hospices that are closest to me. I am also curious about the care for children.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Role and Functions: All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (11 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: In the case of children in the north Louth area, is that provision open to them to avail of services across the Border?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Role and Functions: All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (11 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: Perhaps that is something on which we could work. For people living in the South in Border areas, it might be closer to go to the North than to travel to LauraLynn or the like in Dublin.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Role and Functions: All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (11 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: I, too, am familiar with the institute's excellent work and I know one of the parents actively involved in it, who has been a mainstay. Like Deputy Kitt, I was at the launch and I congratulate Ms Charnley on her work. Could she speak about funding? I ask her also to talk about reaching out into the more rural areas of the country and the support the institute provides there, from Donegal...

Seanad: Standards of Care in Residential Care Homes: Statements (10 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: I thank the Minister of State for coming into the House to discuss this issue. I proposed an amendment to the Order of Business this morning. Last night I deliberated long and hard as I knew there would be repercussions and I did not do it lightly. I felt something had to be done and I was very disappointed - I still am - that not one other person in the Chamber seconded the amendment....

Seanad: Order of Business (10 Dec 2014)

Mary Moran: On a point of order, I want to express my disappointment that nobody would second the amendment to have people in for this debate.
