Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of the Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feed and Fertilisers Regulation Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: My first question is on the prescriptions. What percentage of them are currently being processed on the NVPS? Would the Minister of State and the officials accept that vet-only prescribing will not meet regulations, because there will be no competition? Anyone with a grain of common sense can see that. There will not be competition and it will lead to less availability. Objective 5 of...

Carol Nolan: With regard to the number of prescriptions, not the number of vets, do we know what is the number or percentage of prescriptions?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of the Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feed and Fertilisers Regulation Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: Yes.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of the Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feed and Fertilisers Regulation Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (11 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: Would the vets not be supplying that information so the Department could get a picture to see it rolled out on a voluntary basis? Would it not have made sense to see how many prescriptions had gone through? What is the reason for not having this information?

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (5 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: The programme for Government makes reference to supporting our healthcare workers, which is only right. In January of this year the Government announced a bonus payment for the healthcare workers who did Trojan work during the pandemic. I want to know when the workers will receive this payment and if the Taoiseach will ensure all healthcare workers are included in it.

Written Answers — Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection: Social Welfare Payments (5 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: 216. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of persons that have applied for the exceptional needs payment in counties Laois and Offaly from 1 January to date in 2022; the number of applications that were successful; the number rejected; the total amount paid out through the exceptional needs payment during this time period for each county; and if she will...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: General Scheme of the Veterinary Medicinal Products, Medicated Feed and Fertilisers Regulation Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: I thank the representatives of the IPU and the ILMA for their comprehensive presentations. I will pick up on what Mr. O'Shea said earlier about economic impacts. It is a concerning situation and there will be a wider impact on the local economy of rural communities. If 90% of the anti-parasitic business is transferred to veterinarians, as the antibiotic sales were, would Mr. Ryan envisage...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: National Children's Hospital (4 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: As the Minister is aware, there are ongoing concerns regarding the cost of the national children's hospital. Has his Department flagged any of those concerns with the Department of Health or any other Department?

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: National Children's Hospital (4 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: I thank the Minister for his response. He mentioned oversight and his Department but have specific concerns in respect of the cost and rising expenditure on the hospital project been flagged? As he is aware, in March 2017 and March 2019 the Rural Independent Group, of which I am part, gave the previous Government openings to change course in respect of the national children's hospital when...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: National Children's Hospital (4 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: I again thank the Minister for his response but surely there is some intervention he can make with the Department of Health given that €1.1 billion has been drawn down and there are endless problems with the whole project. To be constructive, I suggest that we have a debate on the real cost and service implications of this train wreck of a project. Will the Minister commit to that?...

Housing for All Update: Statements (Resumed) (4 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: We have a very serious situation. We are hearing about Housing for All but we are not seeing delivery for all. We have more and more homeless people. Without a doubt, there are more homeless people in my home county of Offaly and, indeed, in neighbouring County Laois. It is a very worrying trend. People are at their wit's end. In addition to that problem, many young people and couples...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (4 Oct 2022)

Carol Nolan: I acknowledged the measures that were brought in to alleviate the pressures. However, it is not enough. This crisis has been years in the making. We have all met USI representatives. We have all met college and university representatives, who have told us about this and said quite clearly that this crisis would become worse. I would like to know if the Taoiseach will answer the...

Students in Galway are sleeping in tents and are protesting not just at the deficit in accommodation, but also at the absolute absence of student...
