Eamon Gilmore: I know there are some amendments to this Bill which are being proposed by the Minister for Justice and being considered by the Government. The timing and arranging of the meetings of the committee are matters for the committee itself. I am sure it will be able to arrange its timing itself but there are amendments under consideration by the Government in respect of that Bill.

Eamon Gilmore: There is no legislation promised in respect of either of those matters. There is nothing to prevent local organisations or local authorities from acquiring the Garda stations that are no longer in use and that are available for alternative use.

Eamon Gilmore: I understand that the Minister and his Department have reached agreement with the trade unions representing staff in the local authorities on the transfer of water services under the new arrangements.
