- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: National Asset Management Agency (12 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: There are various questions about the units that local authorities turned down. I have one specific question. Has every unit that was turned down been disposed of at this stage? My second question relates to the docklands. I understand NAMA has control of 75% of the undeveloped land in the docklands area. The bulk of the development is going to be for commercial purposes and office...

- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Dublin Homeless Network, Limerick and Clare Homeless Alliance, Cork Social Housing Forum (12 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: My first question is to Ms Barry and relates to BrĂș Aimsir. What can be done to ensure the closure of this facility is not repeated elsewhere? I am aware of other hostels that are due to close. Such closures cause additional stress and anxiety to those who use hostels. How can this be prevented? These facilities are described as cold weather accommodation. The weather here is such...
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Minister for Finance (5 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: On the vacant site levy, I am aware that for legal reasons the Minister was precluded from commencing this measure before 2018. Why was a levy in excess of 3% of the value of the property not considered? Some people have been sitting on vacant sites for long periods. Pressure must be put on the National Asset Management Agency to provide more social housing units because more social...

- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Irish League of Credit Unions (5 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: The Minister, Deputy Noonan, suggested that there was potential to use section 44 of the 1997 Credit Union Act to develop social housing. I wonder has Mr. Farrell thought of that provision. My second question relates to the credit unions' relationship with dormant accounts. I understand the credit unions are excluded from the Dormant Accounts Fund. Given that there could be seed capital...
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Construction Industry Federation (3 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: We are hopeful we will have a Minister dedicated to housing. Mr. Parlon mentioned the issue of access, an issue which also arose at our meeting last week. Will he outline what he means by "access" from the point of view of the construction industry? What is needed to get movement on this? My second question concerns capacity to build and the skills required. Mr. Parlon said there is no...
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (3 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: I thank the society for its presentation. The first point I would have to take issue with is what Mr. Cleary said about the docklands. As somebody who is from a docklands community, still living there and representing it, that model is not to be totally recommended because it certainly made many mistakes, not least of which was the conflict of interest between the Dublin Docklands...
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (3 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: My first question is about the vacant site levy and the suggestion in the presentation that it needs to be reviewed. What does Mr. Davitt mean by that? The levy is currently 3% and I understand from the Minister that it was on the advice of the Attorney General that the date was set for 2019 and could not be before that. Can Mr. Davitt clarify what he meant in that regard? We share the...

Maureen O'Sullivan: Most of my questions were not answered.
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (3 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: I want to ask about the vacant site levy and, going back to the rented accommodation, I want to ask about standards. While I am not tarring all landlords with the same brush, there certainly are landlords who are looking for increases in rent when it is reductions they should be getting because of the poor standard of accommodation.
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (3 May 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: Some councils are doing that, which is good, but unfortunately some landlords are using the process as an excuse to get rid of tenants. They can then do a certain amount of work, increase the rent and find different tenants. The original tenants are then placed on the homelessness list.
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Interim Report of Committee (26 Apr 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: To follow up on that point, I read the opening statement which was circulated from the managers who are coming in this afternoon. The information provided therein is all bunched together so we do not have a sense of the situation in each of the particular areas. It is important that we address that.
- Committee on Housing and Homelessness: Interim Report of Committee (26 Apr 2016)
Maureen O'Sullivan: Given that they are coming in this afternoon, it is a pity they cannot bring that information with them.
