- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland - Challenges, Strategies and Governance: Sport Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I thank Mr. Paul McDermott for his views on track and field events at Rio last year. We came home with some very good results. I remember watching television one evening and seeing an Irishman in the diving finals. It was a great achievement. I am also a big supporter of the cyclists. We did not come home with our weight in gold, but I will come back to the earlier question. In his...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland - Challenges, Strategies and Governance: Sport Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: What type of sports events should we be seeking to attract? Our IRFU colleagues are currently trying to get the rugby world cup here, but could we try to get other events, including athletics, in future? We all focus on the European football championships but we do not hear anything about having the world boxing championships or the European athletics championships. Are we working on those...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland - Challenges, Strategies and Governance: Sport Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I had a comment about obesity, which is a growing problem. How do the witnesses hope to tackle this problem? Mr. Galvin mentioned physical education while Mr. Treacy spoke about local sports partnerships. These are up and running. Are we back to money again because obesity is becoming a big problem?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Current Financial Situation at Bus Éireann, the Expressway Service and the Rural Transport Programme (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I welcome Mr. Hernan and I also welcome Mr. Boland and his colleagues. We all see the dilemma Mr. Hernan is in, and he seems to have been thrown in at the deep end. It is ironic that this week the Taoiseach launched a programme for the rejuvenation of our town and villages and spoke about the importance of services being kept in place and here we have the threat of a reduction of services,...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Current Financial Situation at Bus Éireann, the Expressway Service and the Rural Transport Programme (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: Going back less than ten years, the Croke Park agreement would be more satisfactory than what is being asked of the workers in this document. The cuts have been covered, but I am at a loss because one part of the document states what is in the retirement pension and another part of the document states the pension issue must be addressed by the overall CIE group. I want clarification on this...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Current Financial Situation at Bus Éireann, the Expressway Service and the Rural Transport Programme (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I seek clarification.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Current Financial Situation at Bus Éireann, the Expressway Service and the Rural Transport Programme (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: The Cork to Waterford route could lose up to 130 services per week with regard to Youghal and Midleton. On route 51 from Cork to Limerick, services to Mallow and Buttevant could be reduced by 206 services per week. This is an astronomical cutback, when it provides a social service more than a transport service.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Current Financial Situation at Bus Éireann, the Expressway Service and the Rural Transport Programme (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: Mr. Hernan mentioned insurance costs. Every transport operator is being affected by insurance premium increases and claim increases. They cannot just go back to their customers and stop the service or increase prices. Surely Bus Éireann has a mechanism to overcome this so that given time it will roll over and come back to normality. Why is insurance a big issue?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Current Financial Situation at Bus Éireann, the Expressway Service and the Rural Transport Programme (25 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: Why is Bus Éireann prone to extra claims?

- Tillage Farming: Motion [Private Members] (18 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I welcome tillage farmers and their IFA representatives to the Gallery this evening. They are not here for a holiday but because of their concerns. Chapter 5, section...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sport in Ireland; Challenges, Strategies and Governance: FAI, GAA and IRFU (18 Jan 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I welcome the witnesses who have spoken on behalf of the three powerhouses of sport in Ireland on a national or an inter-county basis. One cannot but praise these organisations. Trying to be critical might be impossible but I am sure we will find issues as we go along. One of the issues might be governance. Recently, the Minister of State with responsibility for sport spoke about gender...
