- Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad]: Report Stage. (22 Jun 2005)
Ciarán Cuffe: I asked the Minister to review the Garda code. I simply suggested that the section of the Garda code that specifies that a Garda cannot serve within ten miles of a relation, other than a spouse, is outdated and a reflection of a Victorian concept.
- Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad]: Report Stage. (22 Jun 2005)

If the Garda code is fully enforced â I do not doubt that it is being fully enforced â many gardaà must find it very difficult to live close to the communities which they serve.
