- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: Given our experience with the Comptroller and Auditor General around his workings with the NAMA issues, we have found him to be very good. We can progress it from our end as much as we can as to why he has not being engaged because it looks to me as if it would be very helpful.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: I thank Ms Farrell.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: The NAMA legislation is somewhat vague. NAMA claims a certain private status in its work, yet everything it has done can be scrutinised by the Comptroller and Auditor General despite that fact. It is one of the reasons it felt no obligation to provide a social dividend.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: I thank the witnesses for the presentation. I would not blame them for not anticipating the severity of the crash as I did not do so either. I do not know anybody who did and most of the clever comments came afterwards. I did not hear much of it before the crash. Ms Mary Farrell made a presentation in the previous session. She was not saying the money could have been invested better...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: Any information they want on what happened in the past will be made available.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: It was mentioned in the submission that a completely unsolicited and independent review carried out by Key Capital and PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2014 found things were done properly. Why did they do it if it was completely unsolicited?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Wards of Court: Discussion (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: Most would agree the big organisations have a pretty incestuous club and it is very hard to find someone who can take an independent position on most matters in Ireland. Key Capital and PricewaterhouseCoopers are big players with vested interests in many different areas. If in the case of the Comptroller and Auditor General not being given permission by the Attorney General to adopt an...

To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport further to his commitment earlier in 2017 to conduct an internal review in his Department of the international legal implications of the Air Navigation (Carriage of Munitions of War, Weapons and Dangerous Goods) Order SI 224 1973, the details of discussions he has had on the timeframe and scope of the review; the progress made to date...

- Written Answers — Department of Finance: NAMA Operations (11 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: 88. To ask the Minister for Finance the joint ventures NAMA has entered into with house builders and developers; the name and location of each development; the corresponding developer in question; the number of units developed on each site or plan to be developed; the amount of capital supplied by NAMA for each site or development, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the...
- Financial Resolutions 2018 - Budget Statement 2018 (10 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: It has no experience in the property game or in housing. There is no one on the board with any experience in this area. Between late 2016 and the first five months of 2017, 91 of NAMA's staff have left. Anyone who is any good is getting out of the place because its name is muck now and they do not want anything to do with it. I will outline part of the problem. Tallaght Cross West...
- Financial Resolutions 2018 - Budget Statement 2018 (10 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: The budget was a serious damp squib and particularly disappointing in view of it being the first budget of the new Minister for Finance, Deputy Donohoe, and the first during the Taoiseach's time in charge. I was at the Ireland versus Wales football match in Cardiff last night and I can assure the Minister that the spirits and well-being of the people of Ireland got more of a boost from that...

[42471/17]

Mick Wallace: 472. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number of doping tests undertaken out of competition at kennels since the introduction of such testing; the number of disqualification orders issued for greyhounds involved in anti doping breaches in each year since 2010, in tabular form; and the number of licences that have been revoked for trainers found to have committed...
- Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Building Energy Rating Administration (10 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: 715. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the number of BER certificates issued to date in 2017; the type of dwelling related to each BER issued, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42641/17]
- Vacant Housing Refurbishment Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (4 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: I welcome the Bill. While it is not going to fix our housing crisis, it is certainly a start. Rome was not built in a day but it was started. There are some interesting ideas in the Bill. I can understand that people have concerns. Sometimes people believe that if one reduces bureaucracy, one actually threatens regulation but bureaucracy does not equal good regulation. It is not...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Recent Issues Relating to An Garda Síochána: Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin (4 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: I thank the witnesses for coming in. I would like to start with a question for the Assistant Commissioner Mr. Michael O'Sullivan. My question relates to the breath test report. Will Mr. O'Sullivan explain why some submissions from the AGSI and a rank and file garda were dismissed? In that context, I wish to quote directly from the report, as follows:It was believed that managers used...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Recent Issues Relating to An Garda Síochána: Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin (4 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: We will have to disagree on that. My next question is for the acting Garda Commissioner. I get the impression that there is a deliberate attempt in the report to remove any possible motive for falsifying breath test figures in the hope that people will then not believe that anyone in An Garda Síochána could have falsified data relating to the number of breath tests carried out or...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Recent Issues Relating to An Garda Síochána: Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin (4 Oct 2017)
Mick Wallace: What does the acting Garda Commissioner think? Does he think that it is credible that this could go on for so long with senior management not being aware that it was happening?
